About This Pub

Ah, THE STAR – it's one of those hidden gems tucked away in the Nottinghamshire countryside, where you can kick back in the beer garden and soak up the views of the farmland and woods; it's just lovely for a casual catch-up with mates. From what I've gathered, the team there really knows how to make you feel at home, with their warm welcomes and that dog-friendly policy – they even have treats for your pooch, which is a nice touch if you're out for a walk. The food's generally a highlight, with folks raving about the pies and lasagne, offering that proper pub meal feel without breaking the bank, and if you're after real ale, they've got you covered. But, fair's fair, it's not all perfect; I've seen a few grumbles about things like a £4 Pepsi feeling a tad steep, and that one bad Sunday roast experience sounds like a real letdown – undercooked beef isn't what you'd hope for on a family outing. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just maybe keep expectations in check and go for the strengths like the atmosphere and service. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that could do with a bit more consistency, but I'd say give it a go for a relaxed evening out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is absolutely fabulous, with stunning views over the countryside – perfect for a relaxing pint on a sunny day.
  • It's super dog-friendly; they welcome your furry friends with treats and water points, making it a great spot for walks in the area.
  • The food can be spot on, like that amazing pie or the lasagne that folks rave about – it's hearty, home-cooked pub grub at a reasonable price.
  • Staff are really welcoming and attentive, going out of their way to make sure everyone has a good time, whether you're there for a meal or just a drink.
  • They've got a nice mix of traditional pub vibes with a contemporary feel, plus real ale on tap, which is always a winner for ale enthusiasts.
  • Accommodation is available and seems cosy, with great breakfasts included – ideal if you're staying over after a night out.
Cons
  • Prices can sting a bit, like a £4 pint of Pepsi, which might put some off if you're just popping in for a soft drink.
  • Food isn't always consistent; one person had a disappointing Sunday roast with undercooked beef, which really soured their visit.
  • Recent reviews show a bit of a mixed bag, with some lower ratings suggesting the experience isn't always as top-notch as the overall score implies.

Had a wonderful meal here Saturday night 😋 for some reason despite living 5 drive mins away for the last 6 years, we had never thought to come. We've been desperate for a good old home cooked pub meal without beibg over the top fancy, for ages and we found just that! I'm not a huge fan of thick cut chips but they were done perfectly. Husband had the steak pie which he loved. I had the bhuna which was really flavoursome, even the rice was aromatic and lovely. Kids had cheese burgers and falafel burgers and they really enjoyed theirs too. Great food, clean, comfortable, good service, we will definitely be back

Really nice pub with a nice beer garden and small cabins. But unfortunately a Pint of Pepsi was £4 (as of 09/06/25)... Not sure how to feel about that. Yikes.

We went for lunch and what a lunch it was! Two of us had a pie and one had lasagne. I have eaten many pies over the years but this was the best I've ever tasted! Fine food, reasonably priced, great service.....what more could you ask for!!!

Had a meal here on Sunday 27/04/2025. t was a Sunday roast. The location is great. When the food arrived it looked fine and then I tried to cut the roast beef. Honestly it was not possible. very under cooked and full of fat. The worst Sunday roast I have ever had. I mentioned this to one of the staff who just laughed. We had a dog with us and it wasn't even fit for the dog to eat. The story ends well because I have some old boots at home that need re-soling. The meat will be perfect for the job. I cannot comment on the other food they provide, but avoid the Sunday roast.

Stayed here for 1 night. A lovely little pub with great staff. Room was lovely and breakfast was great. Thanks to the amazing lady who looked after us (sorry didn’t catch your name) she was so lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back in the future.
