About This Pub

Ah, the Rose & Crown Inn in Zouch – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its charming village feel and that genuine, welcoming energy you don't always find these days. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's spot on for a relaxed afternoon or evening; the food, especially those steaks, gets rave reviews for being spot-on and hearty, and the service often shines with little touches that make you feel looked after. I love how it's got that community spirit, where you can pop in for a quick pint or a full meal and not feel out of place, even if you're not a regular. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – there've been a couple of stories about staff not being as professional as they should, like mocking acts at an open mic night, which is a real shame and could put a damper on things. Service might drag a bit if they're busy, and if you're after something veggie-friendly, the menu's a bit stuck in the past. Still, with a solid 4.3 rating overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a great time sharing a laugh with friends over a drink or two.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is a real highlight, with top-notch steaks and generous portions that hit the spot every time.
  • Service is generally excellent, with staff going the extra mile, like providing masks during tricky times or being apologetic when things run a bit slow.
  • It's a proper village pub with a community vibe, perfect for a casual drink or a meal with mates after a nice walk.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of unprofessional behaviour from staff, like overhearing them taking the mickey out of performers, which can really spoil the evening.
  • Service can be a tad slow at times, especially if the team is still settling in under new ownership.
  • Options for vegetarians are a bit limited, sticking to that old-school pub menu without much variety.

Just an honest review , attended an open mic night there which was going really well , until over hearing conversations at the bar , between staff and locals , taking the Mickey out of the acts , and to be specific a young man with special needs. Had to leave , spoilt a good night , from parents of a special needs child , feel it's completely disgusting and disrespectful, get some balls and get up there yourselves if you can do better - shame on you all 😠😠😠

Lovely small village pub. You could tell everyone knew everyone, but didn’t put us off from staying and eating. Food was nice. Service was a bit slow, however, I believe the new owners haven’t been there long and they were very apologetic (we didn’t mind anyway).

Possibly the friendliest pub ever We hadn’t planned on calling in at a pub but after a lovely walk we stopped on chance. We didn’t have masks but the staff kindly provided us with one each so that we could order and use indoor facilities if needed. We enjoyed our drinks sitting by the side of the river watching the world go by. Staff were lovely and attentive, provided water and treats for our puppy. Beer was also good - shame we were just passing through as the food also looked great

Brilliant local boozer on the canal, with a secret weapon: the quality of their steaks (both cuts and chef). Generous portions off a pretty standard bar menu (steak, steak pie, steak sandwich, mixed grill etc), and perfectly executed. Not really for vegetarians (1980's style limited choice) and decor on the shabby / rustic side with a thousand fairy lights over the top. A great walkers' refuelling point.
