About This Pub
Ah, the Jolly Abbot – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that sounds like a right cosy spot when it's at its best. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff really shine through; they're super friendly and make you feel like you're catching up with old mates, which is just lovely for a relaxed evening. The pints are spot on too, always dependable, and they've got all the classics sorted with pool, darts, and skittles to keep things lively, plus plenty of screens for the big games. It's got that community vibe that makes you want to pop in regularly. But, let's be straight, it's not all beer and skittles – there are a few stories of some staff being a bit off, with mentions of confrontational attitudes that could make anyone uncomfortable, especially if it involves unfair treatment. That said, the age limits on the pool table might put a stop to spontaneous fun for some groups, and the overall feel can vary depending on the time you visit. All in all, if you're in Rugby and fancy a pint, it's worth giving it a go, but keep an eye out for those potential pitfalls to make sure you have a good time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
You can always count on a decent pint here – it's reliably good, which is just what you want from a local pub.
-
There's plenty to keep you entertained with a pool table, dartboards, skittles, and loads of TVs showing sports, perfect for a casual night out.
Cons
-
There have been some upsetting reports of confrontational behaviour and possible racism from certain staff, which really puts a damper on things.
-
The age restrictions on the pool table might limit who can join in the fun, making it feel a bit exclusive at times.
-
The atmosphere can be hit or miss; it might not always live up to the hype if it's quiet or if issues crop up unexpectedly.

Very confrontational to be honest. Could sense some immense racism from the way he spoke to me. I only came in to grab a J20 drink but he was absolutely disgusting with his treatment of none white customers and I could see it all. Do not come here. Absolutely pathetic.

Great landlord and staff are so very friendly. Plus a decent pint every time
Sound gaffer and lovely barmaid. Didn't eat so can't comment on that. Very nice pub with pool table, dartboards and skittles. Numerous TVs for sports. I'd have given more for atmosphere but it was early with few punters at the time
Elle was such lovely member of staff , so friendly and very welcoming , me and my party had a fantastic time, definitely going back when we're back in rugby next.
The new owners have made it so the pool table can only be used but people 14+
