About This Pub
Ah, The Stag – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden gem in Stotfold, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, people are really chuffed with the food; whether it's the 'pick your own' breakfasts that come out piping hot and full of options, or those evening meals that hit the spot after a long day. The atmosphere is spot on too – imagine settling in for a match or a casual catch-up in a cosy setting that makes you feel right at home. Service-wise, it's all about that efficient, friendly touch that keeps things running smoothly, and at such reasonable prices, it's easy to see why it's a favourite. But it's not without its quirks; you might find yourself disappointed if you pop by on a Monday when the kitchen's closed, or if you're navigating from afar, as it's a tad off the beaten path and could use a bit more signage. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after a relaxed pint and a bite, and I'd say it's well worth seeking out for a proper pub experience – just plan ahead and you'll have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – especially those freshly cooked breakfasts on weekends, which are a brilliant way to kick off the day without breaking the bank.
-
It's got such a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it feel like a proper local spot where you can relax with friends over a meal or a pint.
-
Service is spot on too; reviews rave about how quick and friendly the staff are, ensuring you don't wait around unnecessarily.
-
Great value for an inexpensive pub, with tasty meals and drinks that leave you feeling satisfied without the hefty price tag.
Cons
-
Food isn't served on Mondays, which could be a bit of a letdown if you're hoping for a pub lunch midweek.
-
It's tucked away off the main routes, so it might take a bit of effort to find if you're not familiar with the area, potentially missing out on spontaneous visits.

Would highly recommend. We stopped by for a breakfast on a Saturday morning. Good breakfast options, at a good price (we went for a "pick your own" breakfast). We weren't left waiting long, and the food was delivered quickly; and was most excellent. The Stag itself is a charming little pub, with a good atmosphere.
Today (20/04/25) I and 4 friends have just enjoyed an excellent meal and dessert at The Stag. Everyone enjoyed their individual meals and one couple have not visited the pub for 20 years, but vow to return, if not just for the lumpy bumpy cake. The whole experience was of the highest standard. We will be back.
A great little village pub. We were there when the European championship football was on, with England playing, yet still we had no trouble getting a table for a nice pub meal and a few drinks. We visited on a Wednesday night and will return.
Great village pub in Stotfold off the beaten track not on a through route so it needs finding. We held our Monday Meet for Stevenage and District Motorcycle Club. The pub laid on a good buffet.
Stopped in for dinner while travelling home on the A1M.
Blown away! Fantastic quality food. Great service. Lovely atmosphere.
Very happy well fed customers here.
