About This Pub

Ah, Downtown Bar & Grill, tucked away in the heart of Letchworth at The Broadway Hotel – it's one of those places that really pulls you in with its promise of great grub and a relaxed vibe, but like any spot, it's got its ups and downs. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food's a winner when it's on form; think flame-grilled specials, handcrafted burgers, and even solid options for veggies and vegans, plus that famous Sunday roast that's perfect for a laid-back weekend. The atmosphere is just the ticket too, with live music and a mix of cosy booths and spaces for groups, making it ideal for everything from a casual catch-up to a birthday bash. But, and there's always a but, isn't there? Some folks have had a rough time with bookings going awry or waiting ages for service, and those little add-ons like extra fees for sides can sting a bit, especially when the overall quality doesn't always hit the mark. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it's clear there's plenty to love, and I'd say it's worth popping in if you're in the area – just keep expectations realistic and maybe double-check those reservations. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out, as long as you're up for a bit of the rough with the smooth.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is a real highlight, with delicious options like hearty goulash, fresh bruschetta, and a cracking Sunday roast that keeps folks coming back for more.
  • They've got a great variety on the menu, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices, so it's easy to find something for everyone, whether you're after a quick bite or a proper meal.
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's relaxed and lively, with live music events that add a fun buzz, making it a brilliant spot for catching up with mates or celebrating occasions.
  • Service can be friendly and efficient at times, like when they quickly seat you or deliver meals promptly, adding to that welcoming hotel vibe.
Cons
  • Booking mix-ups can throw a spanner in the works, such as not being ready for your reserved time, which might leave you hanging around longer than you'd like.
  • Watch out for sneaky extras, like having to pay an extra £3.95 for chips with your burger, which can make meals feel a bit overpriced for what you get.
  • Food quality isn't always consistent – some dishes come across as just okay or even mediocre, like burgers that don't quite live up to the hype.
  • Drinks and service can sometimes fall short, with things like odd-tasting cocktails or waits for orders that dampen the experience a touch.

Just a lovely place to hang out. Awesome hearty goulash last time, and a lovely fresh bruschetta today. Very good price for what you get

What a disappointment! Had a table booked for 6pm, they thought it was 7pm so weren't ready for us. The menu is ok however be careful because your burgers do not come with chips, they are an extra £3.95 a portion, which on top of a £14+ burger is not good value for money. The quality does not warrant the price in this case. Of the other non burger meals portion size and quality was good. Service was pretty awful, we had to ask 4 times and eventually go to the bar to get an additional wine glass, some food items came substantially later than the majority of meals and we waited so long to order desserts we changed our minds and chose to get the bill and go instead. Just a word of caution, a service charge is also added to your bill however it is optional and you can, as we did, request it be taken off. Would not return in a hurry for the normal menu which is a shame as before they changed to carvery on a Sunday only this place was always busy and had great roast dinners.

We went in and was immediately given a table even though we hadn't booked, we waited a little while for a waitress to come over we order some alcoholic drinks as there were 4 of us ( pina coladas tasted weird and when we ordered food it took around 20 minutes bit disappointing with my experience as it was our first time

Not sure why the hotel reviews are separated from the restaurant which is literally in the hotel. But hey, wanted an extra review. Food is mediocre at best. The burger was ok. Definitely not smashed...it was grilled, you can see the lines. Burger sauce was pretty good. The scotch bonnet sauce was watered down and tasted nothing like scotch bonnet. More like 2 pre-made sauces mixed together. Desert was actually the best thing. Very much enjoyed the Cheesecake and ice cream. The staff were great. Beers good. Probably won't eat here again but may pop in for a dessert

Had a lovely experience on a Friday night for a birthday meal for two. Menu selection was great (with decent offering for vegetarians and vegans) and equally delicious. Service was fast and our waitress was lovely. We will be back again for a Sunday roast soon!
