About This Pub

You know, I had a wander into The Squirrel the other day, and it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem in the heart of Coventry. The atmosphere is dead cosy, with a welcoming vibe that makes you want to settle in for the evening – whether you're there for a pint or to try their Indian curries, which are generally spot on and full of those comforting flavours. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and ready to help, and it's brilliant value too, so you won't feel short-changed. They've got things like open mic nights that really liven things up and give it a community feel. On the downside, a few folks have mentioned the curries aren't always as spicy as hoped, which could disappoint if you're after a real kick, and that separate billing for food and drinks can be a bit of a surprise. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual night out, but it's worth keeping those niggles in mind to manage your expectations – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed catch-up with mates.
  • Their Indian curries are packed with flavour and really hit the spot, especially at such affordable prices.
  • The service is brilliant – the staff are friendly and always on hand to make your visit enjoyable.
  • They've got fun events like open mic nights, which add a lively buzz to the place.
  • It's a great value for money, with tasty food and drinks that won't break the bank.
Cons
  • Some dishes can come across as a bit bland and not as spicy as you'd expect from Indian cuisine.
  • They charge separately for food and drinks, which might feel a tad confusing or annoying at times.
  • The beer selection isn't the most varied, so it might not thrill those after a wide range of ales.

I came for the open mic night on a Wednesday, it's also an Indian and the food was amazing, especially for the price! Great service, amazing food, amazing open mic night full of great artists. 10/10 would do again

Seems like a good chilled pub in Coventry city centre

The food (at the spicey squirrel upstairs) was a little bland and not spicey at all. With all the other places around to eat, I will not be heading back to here. Also another thing to note is once you pay your bill then you get a 2nd one for your drinks. It's a shame as the service was good and the atmosphere was nice. The pub downstairs was very pleasant and friendly for a drink after and they served Statopramen 😋

Pleasant community / sports type pub I stumbled across on a visit in a part of town with less pubs. Not my ideal draft beer range but very friendly bar team (who I could see being lovely / helpful to some of the more elderly guests) and friendly customers , on my afternoon visit. Would come back for a pint

Spent a great couple of days here, good beer, staff were exceptionally polite and helpful. Although we didn't try the food we saw plenty of it being delivered to other patrons and it looked very nice. Would definitely visit again.
