About This Pub

Ah, The Sparrowhawk – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up from the inside out, isn't it? I've got to say, the food here is a real standout; their Sunday roasts are proper comforting, with perfectly cooked meats, crispy spuds, and veg that tastes fresh as can be – it's no wonder folks are raving about it. Pair that with a cracking selection of beers and wines, and you've got yourself a solid spot for unwinding after a long week. The atmosphere is spot on too, especially if you're into watching the big games; there are screens all over, so it's ideal for a laugh with friends over a pint. On the flip side, it's worth noting that things might not always be perfect – some older chatter hints at past hiccups, and the hours can be a bit confusing, which might put a dampener on spontaneous plans. Plus, it does get packed during events, so if you're after a quiet corner, you might have to time it right. All in all, it's a gem in Crystal Palace that does a lot right, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go for a hearty meal and good craic, as long as you keep expectations balanced.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is an absolute delight – their Sunday roasts and breakfasts are spot on, with generous portions and flavours that really hit the spot.
  • It's a brilliant place for catching live sports, with TVs everywhere so you won't miss a moment, perfect for a relaxed afternoon with mates.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a lovely beer garden for those sunny days, and a great selection of drinks including local brews and wines.
  • It's family-friendly and great for private events, with options for buffets and catering that add a nice touch for special occasions.
Cons
  • Some older feedback suggests there might have been inconsistencies in the past, so it could vary depending on when you visit.
  • The operating hours listed seem a bit muddled, which might make planning a trip tricky if you're not sure when they'll be open.
  • With all those TVs and a lively atmosphere, it can get quite busy during big events, potentially making it feel a tad overwhelming at times.

Popped in for breakfast as our usual was closed due to bank holiday. Ended up having lunch and omg. DIVINE. I had sausages and mash which - I’m not exaggerating was the most delicious sausage and mash I’ve ever had. So many different tastes, delighting with every bite. And for £10!!!!! A slap up meal for £10, unreal. Two starters, two mains and two pints of coke and it came to £40 - ridiculously cheap and delicious and it’s a gorgeous pub, service was great, music choice was also amazing. Make sure you stop by.

Don't let the old reviews determine your visit. We booked a table for 8 on mothers day and the communication was really good. We all had Sunday roasts that were delicious and very generous portions. Good section of puds and the atmosphere was lovely and very family friendly. All the staff I spoke to were really nice and I can't wait to go back for more grub!

Genuinely one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had. Beef was cooked to perfection and proper crispy golden potatoes, plenty of fresh beans and roasted carrots and parsnips. Sam Jackson the chef takes so much pride in his work and it shows. First time visiting but we were made feel really welcome by all the lovely staff. Dog friendly as well. 10/10 highly recommend.

Wow! The Sparrowhawk is under new management and they've absolutely nailed it! We went for the roast dinner and were incredibly impressed. The pork belly was cooked to perfection – crispy crackling and melt-in-your-mouth meat. The roast potatoes were golden and crunchy, and the gravy was clearly made with love. Even the fresh greens were beautifully cooked, and the Yorkshire pudding was perfect. And I can't forget the cauliflower cheese – creamy, cheesy, and utterly delicious. The pub itself has a lovely, cosy atmosphere, and the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend, and well done to The Sparrowhawk!

New Owners have outdone themselves!!! 10/10 Absolutely love this pub! Great find in Gipsy Hill! The tapas food was fantastic - special mention to the harissa humous. Everything was well presented and tasted great. There was also a very good selection of wines (highly recommend “The Guvner”) special mention to the cheesecake dessert as well! The atmosphere was very bright and inviting. Set up for Spanish food and music in the background was a lovely addition. We had a great waitress who was very attentive :) and so lovely talking to us about the food and the reopening of this pub. The outside area is beautiful and very cozy - can’t wait for the euros on their big outdoor screen! This definitely won’t be our only visit!
