About This Pub

Ah, The Smithy's Forge – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot when you're after a proper, no-fuss evening. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the team there really know how to make you feel welcome; they're polite, professional, and always up for a chat, which makes popping in feel like catching up with old mates. The food's a highlight too – think juicy steaks, crisp fish and chips, and those famous sizzling skillets that come out piping hot and full of flavour, all at prices that won't break the bank. It's brilliant for families or a casual date night, and I love that they've got things like dog-friendly areas with water and treats, showing they care about the little details. On the flip side, it's a bit disappointing to see it's listed as closed right now, so you'd want to double-check that before heading over, as it could put a dampener on your plans. Plus, being part of a chain means it might not have that unique, quirky feel some independents offer, and it can get lively on busy evenings, so if you're after a quiet corner, you might have to time it right. All in all, it's a solid choice for a enjoyable meal and a pint, and I'd say it's worth giving it a go when it's up and running – just keep those pros and cons in mind for a balanced experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, accommodating, and go out of their way to make you feel right at home.
  • The food is spot on; fresh ingredients, tasty dishes like sizzling skillets and burgers, with great options for veggies and even the dogs can join in.
  • It's a cracking spot for all sorts of occasions, whether you're out with family, on a date, or just catching up with mates, and the prices are fair and honest.
  • They've got a real community spirit, supporting local charities and offering a function area for groups, which makes it feel like a proper local haunt.
Cons
  • The current status suggests it's closed, which is a bit of a shame and might mean you have to check ahead before planning a visit.
  • As part of a chain, it can sometimes feel a tad generic rather than uniquely local, missing that extra bit of character you get from independent spots.
  • With its popularity, it might get busy at peak times, so you could end up waiting a bit for a table or service.

Food and Atmosphere are as expected from a Sizzler pub. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and accommodating. The food itself was cooked well and tasty. It was out relatively quickly aswell. Overall very good, would go back again

The staff are always polite and professional. I come here almost every week, and we can take our dogs in with us. The management have put a table for guests to help themselves to water and dog treats. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. I pre booked a table for 17 family members, Our meals came out at the same time, and they were all hot.

Came in with some family, a lovely girl on the bar convinced me to upgrade my steak and I’m glad I did, it was absolutely perfect, very juicy and tender. My other half had a fish and chips, enjoyed every bite and said the batter was very crisp. Good for price, friendly service and a cheeky bit of banter while waiting for my pint was thoroughly enjoyed! Will be coming again.

My family enjoyed the food at Smithy's Forge today. We had nachos and garlic bread for starters. For the mains we ordered the mixed grill, tandoori chicken and rice, sausage and mash and fish and chips. For puddings we ordered the ice cream sundaes and chocolate brownie with ice cream. All of the meals tasted good and the food/ drinks were well priced. The bar staff and servers were also really friendly. I recommend giving them a try!
