About This Pub
Ah, The Slaughter House – it's one of those timeless Liverpool spots that just oozes character, being the city's oldest pub and all. From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the live music and comedy nights are an absolute highlight; they pull in some brilliant local talent that keeps the energy high and the laughs coming. Pair that with the friendly faces behind the bar and drinks that won't break the bank, and you've got yourself a proper inviting place for a relaxed evening or a lively get-together. The grub's another plus, with hearty home-cooked options and that famed Guinness that's worth raising a glass to. But, on the flip side, it's not all smooth sailing – a few have mentioned the kitchen closing earlier than expected, which could scupper plans for a bite to eat, and there've been tales of the atmosphere not quite hitting the mark, like when the TV's showing something no one's bothered about during a major match. Still, with a solid overall rating, it's clear this place has plenty going for it, so if you're up for some live fun in a historic setting, I'd say give it a go, just go in with your eyes open to those little niggles.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The live music and comedy nights are absolutely brilliant – they really know how to put on a cracking show that gets everyone in the mood for a great night out.
-
Friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks make it feel welcoming and easy on the wallet, perfect for a casual catch-up with mates.
-
It's right in the heart of Liverpool's bustling area, making it super convenient for a pint after work or as part of a bigger night.
-
They serve up traditional home-cooked meals and that award-winning Guinness, which is a real treat for anyone after some proper pub grub.
Cons
-
Food service can stop earlier than you'd expect, so it's worth double-checking the times to avoid disappointment if you're planning a meal.
-
The atmosphere might feel a bit off at times, like when they've got the wrong telly on during a big event, which can dampen the vibe.
-
It doesn't always live up to past memories for some, with a few odd moments that might leave you feeling a tad underwhelmed.

Great pub in a quiet location. Staff very friendly and drinks reasonably priced. Did not have food but will do next time. Well worth a visit
Always a tops night at Slaughter House. Went to Laughterhouse first, excellent comedy night not to be missed. Never disappoints. Topped night off listening to live band following comedy. If not been before, put on bucket list. Fab night as ever. Make it ur weekend go to x
Can't really leave a proper review as we arrived at 5.15pm on a Sunday to be told food stopped at 5pm. This wasn't obvious on any reviews we looked at before coming here specifically, as were keen to try the scouse as its well reviewed here. Had to go elsewhere. So rating 5 on everything but did not actually eat or drink here.
Really weird. Have fond memories of this place but was left sorely disappointed. Midweek match was on, yet there's Dakar Rally on the tv that no-one's interested in. A couple of different groups chatting, probably glad for it. The thing I heard the most was whatever the young barmaid had on her phone, lovely girl, but don't want to listen to that. I felt the older barmaid knew the situation. Bizarre, seems to have lost its charm.
Not been here for many years but just passing and called in for a pint. Still a very busy place with plenty of seats and they seem to have a great menu, so must call back and try the food out.
