About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Skiff Inn – it's one of those places that just wraps you up in a cosy hug from the moment you walk in. Run by the passionate Papa Joe for over two decades, it's got this lovely mix of nostalgic charm and fresh, modern twists on pub favourites and Italian dishes. The food really steals the show; we're talking epic burgers, sizzling grills, and mouth-watering pizzas and pastas that folks rave about, with huge portions that make every meal feel like a treat. The staff are an absolute delight, always polite and efficient, even on those packed Sundays. It's spot on for families or a relaxed catch-up with mates, thanks to the welcoming vibe and extras like toys for the kids. On the flip side, it does get heaving at times, so you might end up queuing if you rock up unannounced, particularly for larger groups since bookings aren't always an option on Sundays. And while the prices are fair for what you get, it might not be the cheapest spot if you're just after a quick, budget-friendly pint. All in all, it's a gem worth visiting for a proper good feed and a chat – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but maybe check ahead to avoid any hassle.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – think hearty pub classics, delicious pizzas, and fresh pastas with big portions that leave you feeling well satisfied.
  • The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a nostalgic Italian charm that makes you feel right at home, complete with toys for the little ones.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are incredibly friendly and quick, even when it's buzzing with people.
  • It's in a handy spot near the Metrocentre with plenty of parking, making it easy to pop in for lunch or dinner any day of the week.
  • They've got a great variety on the menu, including monthly specials with seasonal ingredients, so there's always something new to try.
Cons
  • It can get quite busy, especially on Sundays when it's walk-in only for smaller groups, which might mean a bit of a wait if you haven't planned ahead.
  • With a moderate price level, it might feel a tad pricey for a casual pint and bite if you're on a tight budget.
  • The focus on family-friendly vibes means it could be a bit lively for those seeking a quiet, intimate evening out.

Found this little gem when looking in the area for a nice food on Sunday. It was so busy when I walked in but we sat down straight away. The staff are very polite and quick with service. We ordered from the Sunday menu and the food was awesome 👍 big portions and absolutely delicious 😋 need to come back on a normal day to try it out some more dishes.

The Skiff Inn is a family-friendly, vintage pub that specialises in traditional pub-grub and Italian cuisine alike. The eatery has a nice, chatty atmosphere with vintage decor and plenty of seating. I ordered the garlic mushrooms on ciabatta bread, the skin-on fries and the pork belly. The garlic mushrooms were creamy and juicy and paired perfectly with the bread. The pork belly portion was enormous with a kind helping of gravy and a large Yorkshire pudding. The skin of fries were my favourite. Fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, seasoned to perfection and paired with a sweet mayo sauce. Would happily eat these on its own! Service was sweet and efficient. Our server came back around mid-meal to check on us which was a lovely touch. Extensive drinks menu and dessert choices, plus on-site parking. Would recommend! - P.R

Absolute gem of a place. Soon as we walked in, had a good vibe from the get go. The waitresses were lovely and very friendly! The food... man the food was positively sublime! Some of the best food I've ever had. It's extremely rare i struggle to finish a meal but the Giant Yorkshire Pud ended that streak 🤣 Beautifully crafted and was genuinely shocked by the size of it when it arrived! 100% recommend that if you visit 💪 You definitely wouldn't get all that for £12.95 down south!!! If I'm ever in Newcastle again, will definetly pop in for more

Was visiting my family from Canada and had my first Guinness Steak pie. It was AMAZING! The fries, a.k.a. chips were fresh, homemade, and perfect! Gravy was super yummy!!!!!! Definitely will be back to try the Italian dishes that are highly recommended and the Yorkshire pudding. The pizza looked delicious, too!!! Was totally shocked and happy at the bill! It was so crazy inexpensive!!!!!
