About This Pub
Ah, The Sir John Borlase Warren – what a gem it is, tucked away at that bustling junction in Canning Circus. I've got to say, it's one of those places that just warms your heart from the get-go, with its impressive lineup of real ales and craft beers that cater to every taste, and the staff are always up for a chat, making you feel like you're among mates. The food's another highlight; those burgers and pizzas are spot on, and don't even get me started on the Sunday roasts – they're hearty, flavoursome, and such good value that you'll be planning your next visit before you've even left. That beer garden is a real treat too, offering a peaceful escape right in the midst of the city, ideal for whiling away an afternoon. On the flip side, it's not smack in the city centre, so if you're out exploring, it might mean a bit of a trek, and it does get lively during events, which can make it feel a touch crowded at times. All in all, though, it's a solid spot for a pint or a meal, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone looking for that perfect blend of tradition and a good old knees-up – just pop in and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of cask ales, craft beers, gins, and whiskies that really hit the spot for any ale enthusiast.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
That beer garden is a proper hidden gem – it's one of the best in Nottingham, perfect for a sunny afternoon pint or a relaxed evening catch-up.
-
The food is excellent value, with pub classics, pizzas, and those legendary Sunday roasts that keep everyone coming back for more.
-
It's got a great vibe with events like quiz nights and live music, plus it's Cask Marque Accredited, so you know the beers are top quality.
Cons
-
It's a bit out on the western edges of the city centre, so it might take a short walk or drive if you're in the heart of Nottingham, though it's well worth the effort.
-
The pub can get quite busy during events or peak times, which might make it a tad tricky to find a seat, especially in that popular beer garden.

Beautiful rage of cast ales, the beer tastes amazing and no complains the bar staff are lovely as well
Staff were very friendly, food was excellent and astonishingly cheap (2 burgers or pizzas for £15), great selection of beers and ciders. Cannot recommend this place enough, don't judge a book by its cover.
A lovely, welcoming, multi-room pub with Lincoln Green brewery beers. On the western fringes of the city centre at a junction of multiple routes into Nottingham, & just over the road from the impressive town cemetery. Didn’t try the food but the beers were well kept & very drinkable. I will be back!
Love this pub, and it was great to be back again for a couple of beers on a visit to Canning Circus! Always a warm welcome here, but even better this time, as the fire was glowing!
Fantastic traditional pub with great selection of drinks, friendly bar staff, outdoor seating and chill out areas. The prices were really good compared to the city centre so it's definitely worth a walk up to if you are visiting Nottingham. There was a beer festival on for the weekend when we attended with some excellent local hand pulls.
