About This Pub

Ah, The Shore Bar and Restaurant – it's one of those places in Edinburgh that really stands out for anyone who loves a good fish dish. From chatting about the reviews, it sounds like the seafood is spot on, with things like the smoked fish starters and mussels getting heaps of praise for their rich flavours and creative twists. The team there seems genuinely lovely, always on hand to make sure everything's just right, which adds a nice, homely feel to the whole experience. That nostalgic atmosphere, with its cosy nooks and classic decor, is perfect for unwinding after a day out in Leith. But, to keep it real, there have been a couple of grumbles about the fish pie being a tad too liquidy, and not every meal hits the high notes, as one person had mixed feelings with brilliant starters followed by less impressive mains. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, just keep those expectations balanced and maybe skip the fish pie if you're after something foolproof.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The seafood dishes are absolutely brilliant – think smoked fish and mussels that are packed with flavour and really hit the spot.
  • The staff are so warm and helpful, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a lovely, nostalgic atmosphere with cosy seating and a touch of old-school charm that makes for a relaxing evening.
  • They stick to using the finest local produce, so you know you're getting top-quality ingredients without any compromises.
Cons
  • A few people have mentioned that some mains, like the fish pie, can be a bit runny and not quite up to par.
  • There might be the odd inconsistency in the dishes, as one experience had great starters but mains that didn't quite live up to the hype.

Had an awesome meal there last night. The smoked fish app and mussels were excellent, and my Fish Pie was amazing. It was rich and full of flavor.

The sauce with the oysters is pure witchcraft. Had the fish pie too. Next level. Someone in a previous review complained it was too runny. Whaaat? Nonsense. It was perfect. Great service too. My new most favourite pub/restaurant in Edinburgh.

I recently dined at this restaurant and had mixed feelings about the overall experience. The starters were absolutely delicious, setting high expectations for the rest of the meal. However, the mains fell short. The fish pie, while flavorful, was disappointingly runny. It was so liquid that we had to use a spoon instead of a fork. Despite its good taste, the consistency was off-putting. The wine selection, on the other hand, was excellent, with a variety of high-quality options that complemented our meal well. Unfortunately, the dessert was another letdown. We ordered a cheesecake, but it lacked the signature texture and flavour of cheese, resembling more of a double cream. It missed the mark entirely. In summary, while the starters and wine were highlights, the fish pie and cheesecake left much to be desired.

Beautiful day, and eating here was the best decision we have made. The staff are very personable as well as helpful. I had the scallop dish, which was phenomenal, and one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. My friend had the fish pie, while steaming hot, the flavors were amazing and well balanced. 2 truly amazing dishes. The fish and chips that the wives had were absolutely huge, but fresh and well cooked. Definitely a place to go for an amazing meal. The Jazz music was especially comforting and relaxing.

Step back in time when you walk into this classy bar. The mirrors, piano, bar, and cozy seating are welcoming and nostalgic. The bartender is perfect and welcomed the locals that came in. I went in between lunch and dinner, there weren’t many people. Also, glanced at the dining area behind the bar. I think you’d need to make a reservation for dinner. They also have outdoor seating. I would love to come back for dinner, the hour I spent there drinking my glass of wine was delightful.
