About This Pub
Ah, The Shepherds Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Horbury, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where it really shines; think hearty, massive portions of amazing roasts and belly pork that's tasty as anything, all at prices that won't leave you feeling short-changed. I reckon it's ideal for a Sunday lunch or a casual evening out, with that cozy atmosphere making it easy to settle in for a chat. The staff are generally lovely and helpful, adding to the friendly vibe, and once you've placed your order, the grub comes out pretty sharpish. On the flip side, though, it can be a tad frustrating waiting to get served, as they sometimes look a bit stretched with just one person handling the floor – but hey, that's not uncommon in smaller spots, and it hasn't stopped folks from raving about the place overall. If you're popping by, I'd say go for the specials and maybe time it right to avoid the rush; it's a solid choice for good times without the fuss, and with a solid 4.4 rating, it's clear most people leave with a smile.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – massive portions that leave you stuffed, with delicious roasts and belly pork that hit the spot every time.
-
It's got a really cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates over a pint.
-
Prices are spot on for what you get; you can snag a bottle of house Chardonnay for just £14, making it great value without breaking the bank.
-
Service is generally friendly and helpful once you're sorted, and the staff really add to the homely vibe.
-
The specials board offers even more choices, and the food comes out quickly after ordering, which is a bonus on a busy night.
Cons
-
It can be a bit slow getting someone to take your order, as they sometimes seem understaffed, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a rush.
-
Not much else to nitpick, but it's worth noting that while the food's quick once ordered, the initial wait could be improved.

wonderful service, amazing prices and really yummy food and drink. the presentation of the food is amazing!!!!! nice and cozy too :)
Food is amazing for taste and the portion size you get! I’ve will definitely be back soon!
Amazing atmosphere.
Food was lovely and came quickly, once you managed to order. Getting someone to take the orders was very slow going. It appeared that one waitress was doing all of the jobs on the floor. I hope that's not the norm as we would all come back again for the food, comfort and pricing :)
The food was top class, but at a very reasonable price. House Chardonnay was only £14 a bottle. Belly pork was great, I even got some gravy to take home. For a quality meal out this place ticks all the boxes. The specials board adds even more choices. The staff were very friendly and helpful, keep up the excellent work.
