About This Pub

Ah, Farmhouse Kitchen over in Silkwood Park – what a gem it is for a laid-back outing in Ossett. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place really shines with its warm, welcoming staff who go out of their way to make sure everyone feels looked after, whether you're there for a quick bite or a full meal. It's got that homely feel with bright, spacious decor that's just inviting, and it's brilliant for families, with things like the indoor play area keeping the kids happy while you enjoy a chat and a drink. The food often gets rave reviews, especially the carvery and those tempting desserts that sound like a real treat after a long day. Plus, with handy facilities like the beer garden and easy parking, it's spot on for a hassle-free visit. On the flip side, though, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of disappointment, like that beef and ale pie that looked promising but fell flat, leaving some folks underwhelmed. It seems there can be the odd off day with the cooking, which is a shame given the high marks it usually gets. Overall, if you're after a reliable spot for good value meals and a friendly atmosphere, it's worth a go, but maybe keep expectations in check for the finer details. I'd say it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts looking for a balanced night out – just pop in and see for yourself!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – super welcoming and helpful, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a fantastic spot for families, with loads of child-friendly features like an indoor play area and plenty of space to keep the little ones entertained.
  • The food hits the spot most of the time, with tasty options like the carvery and yummy desserts that leave you feeling spoiled.
  • They've got top-notch facilities, including a beer garden, car park, and even EV charging, which makes it dead convenient for a relaxed visit.
  • With long opening hours and a cosy, spacious atmosphere, it's perfect for popping in after a busy day or for a casual catch-up.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss; for instance, that award-winning beef and ale pie didn't quite live up to expectations for one visitor, turning out soft and underwhelming.
  • There might be occasional inconsistencies in the food quality, as not every meal seems to match the high praise from others.
  • If you're after a quiet, adults-only vibe, it can feel a tad family-oriented, which might make it noisier than you'd like at times.

Very disappointed. We have been previously for a carvery and that was ok but decided to try something different today Their award winning beef & ale pie was the biggest disappointment. At first glance it looks good but as soon as you put a knife to the crust it’s all down hill It was soft as if it had been heated in the microwave and once open a sea of gravy pours out with no other ingredients there was a distinct lack of substance I found one small slither of grizzle not one piece of thick cut beef as described was found in either mine or my husbands pie so it wasn’t just a one off The sign at the carvery It’s all gravy could be an ideal counter for their pie Also as our food arrived on reaching for cutlery one folk out of four on our table was clean we had to seek another from the next table And finally our daughter had requested a cakeaway bring home, so we used the app from our table as we had done on our previous visit . After waiting 15min and it not showing up even though there was quiet and lots of staff floating around I went to the counter where no customer were waiting and 3 servers stood waiting to serve , to find the order had not been picked up . He turned around grabbed a box from the fridge and handed it to me less than a minute it took . I must add all staff are friendly, with a ready smile . But the rest is not worth the visit in our opinion

First time in the Farmhouse all the way from Gibraltar! The staff are very welcoming and helpful with a nice mix of youth and experience amongst the staff. The venue is lovely, very spacious and warm decor. Child friendly also which is always nice to see. The only thing holding the place back from a perfect review is the food, and not by very much, so don’t let this deter you from coming! I just think the food doesn’t quite match the 5 star review that the staff and the venue does… In any case, if we’re ever back in Wakefield, we would come back again! Very well priced also!

Well what can I say I have had a unexpected fantastic experience coming here to farmhouse. Courtesy of my colleague on the railway who to me to come here. I was greeted by a lovely receptionist Naomi who guided my to Harry who I must say was very helpful with me choosing what to eat. He Is a scholar and a Gentleman. I was seated and called up to get food where Joel carved up a storm of chicken, beef, ham. The food was Great and I mean that lizzie was very attentive making sure everything was okay, I would say to anyone you got to try this place if your In the neighbourhood.. And to top It all this was a dry run as they have Just revamped the place. It's a lovely family atmosphere with plenty of parking

Had our dinner out here today, it's so big and bright with all the new decor. The staff were friendly, funny and very helpful. My food was cooked perfectly and taste yummy and the new play area is great for the kids, my child didn't want to leave. The deserts definitely spoil you! I have felt spoiled today and treated with respect. I will be returning here and I definitely think it's my new go to pub from now on.
