About This Pub

Ah, The Shell-Ter Micro Bar – what a gem it is for a laid-back evening in Halesowen. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that cosy, welcoming feel that just draws you in, with staff who go out of their way to make everyone feel at ease, like they're chatting with old mates. The atmosphere is spot on too, blending a good mix of ages and creating a lively yet unpretentious space where you can relax with a pint. The drinks selection stands out, especially the ales, and at such inexpensive prices, it's perfect for a casual catch-up without breaking the bank. But, let's be honest, it's not all sunshine – there are times when the drinks don't hit the mark, like that off ale that put one person off, and a bit of a run-in with the barman shows that service can sometimes fall short. Still, with an overall rating pushing 4.6, it's clear most folks have a great time, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just keep your expectations realistic and maybe stick to the lagers if you're playing it safe. All in all, it's a solid little pub that does the basics well, with just a few rough edges to smooth out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home, just like in David's review where he mentioned feeling so welcome after moving to the area.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere with a good mix of people, from the young crowd to the more seasoned regulars, creating that lively yet relaxed vibe.
  • They offer an interesting selection of drinks, especially the ales, which got high praise for being great and worth trying out.
  • Prices are really affordable, making it an easy spot for a casual night out without worrying about the bill.
Cons
  • Some drinks can be hit or miss, like that awful ale mentioned in one review, which left a bad taste – literally!
  • There might be the odd grumpy moment with staff, such as the argumentative barman who didn't handle feedback well.
  • No option for taster boards means you can't easily sample a few drinks before committing, which is a pity for variety seekers.
  • Food choices seem limited, with no cobs or much else on offer, so it's probably not the place if you're after a proper meal.

Brief Sunday visit so quiet at time. Friendly staff and interesting choice of drinks to try. It's a pity no option to buy a taster board.

First time in the shell after we'd seen splinter playing at the wheelie brewery down the road , must say we had a great evening in there great ales, good atmosphere and shift and pleasant service from the bar staff. We certainly will be visiting again 😀

New Cyder and Cobb awful ale avoid. Plus the barman was argumentative when told the ale was off, sold us a different one which was also not great. Can see why everyone was drinking lager. Probably ok if you like carling and football. Also no cobs on 😂
