About This Pub
Ah, The Sheldon Arms, it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back day out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the carvery is a standout – think juicy roasts with heaps of veg and unlimited Yorkshire puds, which makes it perfect for a Sunday feel any day of the week. The staff really seem to go the extra mile, being super helpful and quick, which adds to that warm, welcoming feel, especially if you're bringing the family along for a bite in their spacious setup. On the flip side, while recent feedback has been all praise, the overall rating dips to 4.2, suggesting there might be times when things aren't quite as seamless, like busier evenings leading to a wait or the odd dish not living up to expectations. Still, with its great drink selection and affordable lunch deals, it's a reliable spot for us lot – I'd say give it a go, but maybe pop in midweek to dodge the crowds and get the full experience without the hassle.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The carvery is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic selection of meats, veggies, and all the trimmings – it's a real treat any day of the week.
-
Staff are always so friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's a proper family-friendly spot with plenty of space to relax, whether you're popping in for a pint in the beer garden or a full meal.
-
They've got a great range of drinks, from locally crafted ales to options for the little ones, perfect for a casual get-together.
-
The pub's clean and welcoming vibe makes it easy to enjoy a bite without any fuss, and those daily specials are a bargain.
Cons
-
With an overall rating of 4.2, it seems like there might be the odd off day with service or food consistency, even if recent reviews have been glowing.
-
Prices are on the moderate side, so if you're watching your wallet, it could feel a bit steep for everyday visits.
-
It can get busy, especially for the carvery, which might mean waits or needing to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
-
The menu focuses heavily on carvery and pub classics, so if you're after something more adventurous, you might find options a tad limited.

Second times coming here to the Sheldons. Very nice clean, friendly restaurant. I really enjoyed the carvery they do here as there's more selection of vegetables compared to other places. The service and staff are always great and fast, can't complain and I would probably come again.
Came here a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 6 years for a carvery. Have to say me and my family were pleasantly surprised by the layout of the pub with lots of space between tables which was great to move around and it felt more relaxed than it used to be.
The carvery tasted lovely with fresh vegetables and beautiful cooked meat and the best roasts, even beats the Queens Arms. Shoutout to our lovely and helpful waitress Jesse for making us feel welcome and for her quick and efficient service with a lovely smile, thanks it made our day! We have since been back twice in 1 week . 😋
Visited for the breakfast buffet as a family of 4. We have a tradition of going out for breakfast on our birthdays as it feels like a real treat so we always try to pick a nice place and the Sheldon Arms didn't disappoint. Service was exemplary, the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful and the food was all fresh and hot. Good selection as well, my kids are both picky eaters but both found enough choices to keep them happy and you can eat as much as you want. It was nice that the drinks were self - serve too, often they aren't even if the food is which can be annoying.
The pub itself is extremely pleasant inside and very clean. It has an olde worlde charm but is still contemporary. Loads of free parking on site. If you are getting the tram into Manchester for the day this would be a great spot to have breakfast to set you up. Great value for money and looking forward to our next visit. 👍
We booked a table because we heard it was always busy. The 4 of us ate off the main menu and all enjoyed our food. The food came out hot.
Desserts were delicious. Server (Shana) was really nice, she helped us decide which dessert to choose.
We will be returning!
