About This Pub
Ah, The Sandpiper – it's one of those cosy pubs in North Shields where you can nip in for a quick pint and end up lingering over a proper meal. From the reviews I've had a look at, most folks are chuffed with the food; things like the chicken wrap with homemade chips come across as absolute winners, and it's clear they've got a knack for putting together a menu that satisfies. The staff stand out too – they're dead efficient and go the extra mile, like when helping organise group events, which makes it feel personal and welcoming. It's got that warm atmosphere that's spot on for watching the rugby or just chatting with friends over a well-poured beer. But, to keep it real, there are a few niggles; some have mentioned dishes being let down by overly salty flavours or portions that overwhelm rather than delight. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening, and with a rating around 4.1, it's got more highs than lows, so I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – just keep an eye on what you order!
Pros and Cons

Staff are friendly and incredibly helpful, especially when you're sorting out events or gatherings with a group.
-
It has a cracking atmosphere, perfect for watching sports or just catching up with mates over well-kept beers and a good selection of ales.

Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss with seasoning, like overly salty sauces that might put you off your meal.
-
Portions can be on the large side, which isn't always a good thing if it means the flavours don't quite balance out.

Went here with my daughter in law for lunch , ordered a chicken wrap with homemade chips. Absolutely beautiful will definitely be back.
I organised a get together of a group of approx 30 friends & colleagues which took place last week. From the first meeting several weeks previously, I met up with Bobby & Charlie who were both really helpful in assisting me to choose the best options for my event.
I chose to have some catering & I have to say it was fabulous. Everyone was very complimentary. Although the bar was open to the public, our area was sectioned off and marked reserved so we could enjoy ourselves in relative privacy, with suitable background music playing. It all worked really well.
I liked the fact that I could add to the catering with my own little bits & pieces too.
Michelle, who was working the bar that evening, was also really great. She was friendly & attentive, & kept the area free of empty glasses throughout.
It was really good value for money, & we got to take doggy bags of leftover food home as well.
Everyone said what a great night it had been, & we will definitely do it again.
I would recommend the Sandpiper & its staff wholeheartedly.
Thanks, guys!
The menu had an extensive choice. First time we visited fur a while and we were impressed. Good ale choice and selection of lagers on draught. I had the gammon which was very good and the fish was tasty too. The chips were chunky and home made with the skins on. Staff welcoming. You just order at the bar and give your table number.
Went to watch the rugby. Good atmosphere. Bar staff friendly and efficient. Beer is well kept and my Birra Moretti(s) were lovely.... Pity about the result!
The Sandpiper is a very nice pub with nice surroundings but is let down by the food so I'm going to say very disappointing. I had the Mexican Chicken Burger, although the chicken breast was succulent the salsa sauce was so salty I had to scrape it off to even attempt to eat it. The burger is so big I had to eat it with a knife and fork as it just collapsed which meant the paper lining on the plate was tearing and sticking to the burger whilst cutting it. My wife had Scampi and she said its the first time shes had stringy scampi that was tough to cut. My son had a cheese burger which he enjoyed, but hey hes only 9 years old and has a lot to learn about good food. And the tomato sauce bottle on the table was filthy as you can see by the pictures, so we didn't use it. And finally none of the staff came to ask us how the food was, because if they had I would not have left this review in fairness.
