About This Pub
Ah, The Salamander in Bath – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper British pub, tucked away nicely off the main drag. I have to say, the food really steals the show; they've got all the classics done right, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that make everything from burgers to sausage rolls taste homemade and hearty. Pair that with their fantastic drinks selection – think top-notch local ales, ciders, and spirits – and you've got a winning combination for a relaxed evening out. The vibe is spot on too, all cosy and welcoming, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or settling in with friends for a meal. It's got that eclectic mix that draws in all sorts, and the staff are generally lovely, happy to recommend a brew or accommodate dietary needs. But, let's be honest, it's not perfect – there have been a few grumbles about service being a bit hit-and-miss, like long waits for your table or the odd forgotten drink, which can put a damper on things if you're in a rush. Still, with such a high rating overall, I'd say it's well worth a visit for anyone looking for a genuine pub experience in Bath, just maybe plan for a leisurely afternoon rather than a quick stop.

Lovely place, great drinks and service, more than plenty of bread in a sandwich 😂
Came for a drink and a snack around 16:00, so the place was pretty much empty. Bartender was extremely nice and confirmed the kitchen was open!
Got ciders and our first ever fish and chips (in England). Delicious!
Delicious, and no judgment from staff for sharing (we're light eaters).
Great pub near the Roman baths, definitely recommend.
My husband and I stopped off in the Salamander for a spot of lunch and we were not disappointed!
We ordered a pork belly bites starter to share which was absolutely delightful, followed by cheese and bacon burgers. The burgers were huge and with a good portion of fries. I asked for mine with no salad and sauce which was delivered as requested.
The atmosphere was good - it seemed a few locals and a few professionals having working lunches.
We hadn't realised there was a separate sandwich menu, but boy, oh boy! The sandwiches which were coming out on thick doorstop bread looked incredible! I'd like to go back to try their fish finger sandwich!
Place has a lot of potential but it needs to get its act together and higher more staff or get more competent ones. Food was delicious but everything else really took away from the experience. Ages waiting for our table, ages waiting for the food, asked for additional drinks waiter forget and had to follow up, eventually showed up when had finished the food, then had to go back down stairs to pay which was another 15 minutes.
Nice pub. The food was superb especially the delicious Piccadilly served with the sausage roll. Food wasn’t greasy. The service was smooth and staff was really friendly. I liked the selection of local beers and ciders. Great atmosphere as well!
