About This Pub
Ah, The Botanist Bath – what a gem it is in the heart of the city! I reckon it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a good pub outing, with its stunning botanical decor that makes you feel like you're in a secret garden. The food is where it shines brightest; think mouthwatering roasts and perfectly seasoned steaks that leave you satisfied and smiling. Plus, the staff are an absolute delight, often going the extra mile to make your visit special, like with those thoughtful surprises on the dessert board. And let's not forget the buzz from live music and events – it's just the ticket for a fun evening with friends. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of waiting ages at the bar, which can put a damper on things, and some drinks or dishes might not live up to expectations, making you question if they're worth the coin. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone in Bath looking for a mix of good vibes and decent grub, but keep in mind it has its off moments, so maybe plan ahead for a smoother experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The building and decor are absolutely stunning – it's like stepping into a lush, botanical haven that really sets the mood for a great evening.
-
The food is a real highlight, with delicious roasts, steaks, and other dishes that are cooked to perfection and offer great value for a moderate price.
-
Staff are genuinely friendly and attentive, often adding a personal touch that makes you feel right at home, like when they surprise you with a complimentary drink.
-
There's a lively atmosphere with live music on weekends and fun events like bingo, making it a brilliant spot for a casual get-together or a special occasion.
-
It's dog-friendly in the bar and terrace areas, so you can pop in with your four-legged mate without any fuss.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit slow, especially at the bar, where you might end up waiting longer than you'd like even if it's not too busy.
-
Some items on the menu, like certain cocktails or burgers, don't always hit the mark and can feel overpriced for what you get.
-
The toilets are a fair walk away, which might be a minor annoyance if you're seated far from them.
-
Options for things like sauces on dishes can be limited, so if you're after more variety, you might find it a tad restrictive.

Beautiful building and decoration. We visited on a Monday evening and it wasn’t busy. It took an age to get served at the bar! I was only one of two at the bar and there were 3-4 staff, but all just ignored me for over 10 minutes. We nearly walked out. I didn’t really like my cocktail, but can appreciate that it was a poor choice.
I visited on Good Friday, where it was busy, but the service was the same. We booked a table, the maître d' was friendly and attentive but waited far too long to get served and just got ignored at the bar. The cocktails were delicious when we eventually got them.
We’ve always wanted to go to the ‘First Dates Restaurant’ and wasn’t disappointed! Lily our waitress was fantastic and so friendly! We had Prosecco on the house as we had recently got married and a ‘congratulations’ on our dessert board. The pork and chicken were delicious but the beef was a little chewy and deleted from the bill which was appreciated.
The decor is stunning! The prices were good too. The toilets were clean but quite a trek :)
It was a great end to our fabulous weekend in Bath.
Food was brilliant , prices were fair and the place itself is visually stunning.
OK the toilets were a bit of a trek but who cares when everything else was so good.
I've not seen the TV show that they film here so it doesn't affect my judgement.
I had a great evening out here and made very happy memories.
We waited for so long to be served. Burgers were mid. Not worth the price. But we liked the shared dessert and interior design. The building is huge and beautiful. The toilet is clean and nice :)
Great atmosphere, we were seated upstairs. Steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection, wish they had other sauces other than peppercorn though.
Cocktails delicious and our server was lovely. Highly recommend, thank you for looking after us!
