About This Pub

Ah, The Raven in Bath – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles from the moment you step inside. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely rave about the cosy setup with its multiple levels and hidden corners, making it feel like a proper local hideaway rather than just another spot on the high street. The food's a real winner too; imagine tucking into hearty pies or a classic stew that's packed with flavour and leaves you feeling well fed without breaking the bank. And the drinks? Well, the pints are spot on, with a good variety of ales that change up regularly, which is always a nice surprise. The staff seem to be the friendly sort, quick with a smile and happy to recommend something if you're undecided. On the flip side, though, it does get bustling, so if you're not in the mood for a bit of a squeeze or the chatter ramping up, it might not be the most serene choice. Still, for a solid night out with mates, enjoying good grub and a laugh, it's a gem – I'd say give it a go if you're in Bath, but maybe aim for a quieter time if you prefer things a bit more chilled.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with different levels and cosy nooks that make you feel right at home in a traditional British pub.
  • The food is spot on – think delicious pies, stews, and bangers and mash, all served with generous portions that leave you satisfied.
  • Drinks selection is brilliant, from perfectly poured pints and cask ales to some lovely wines, making it a treat for beer lovers.
  • Staff are friendly and helpful, always up for a chat and making your visit feel welcoming.
  • It's open every day with no need to book, and the prices are reasonable, so it's easy to pop in for a quick pint or a full meal.
Cons
  • It can get pretty crowded, especially during peak times, which might make it tricky to find a seat or enjoy a relaxed catch-up.
  • The energy is high, so it might feel a bit noisy if you're after a quiet spot for a deep conversation.
  • While the food and drinks are great, some might find the traditional fare a tad straightforward if you're looking for something more adventurous.

Man, I just loved this place. Really neat layout, with different levels and crooks. Lots of energy (a bit noisy if you dont like that type of thing). Great food and drink selection. Solid selection of traditional pub fare. All of my interactions with the staff were very positive; friendly and helpful.

Great little pub in Bath. Had the opportunity to visit it on a recent trip at a recommendation of a friend. Place gets extremely crowded so I guess it’s a good sign. The drinks are affordable but I came for the pies and mash which I told was the star. Presentation was great. Pie was tasty and so filling. The place is lively staff is friendly and it looks like it’s a great place to hang out with friends.

The Raven was the undeniable highlight of my time in Bath. Tucked away just enough to feel like a local secret, it delivers everything you’d want in a proper British pub. The pints were flawless and beautifully kept, perfectly poured, with an ever-changing lineup of cask ales, including a few standout house brews. Beer lovers will appreciate the rotating taps, which showcase both local craft and traditional favourites. The food was equally impressive. Their pies are a thing of legend, hearty, flavourful, and clearly made with care served with endless gravy (your choice of a few different kinds). The bangers and mash were some of the best I’ve had: rich gravy, creamy mash, and sausages with a proper snap. We found ourselves returning again and again: four visits in three days speaks for itself. The last night with got our pies “loaded” with lots of extra roasted vegetables. So tasty. What really sets The Raven apart, though, is the atmosphere. It strikes the perfect balance between lively and relaxed, with a friendly crowd and an old-world feel that’s steeped in history. The staff were warm, friendly, polite and full of local knowledge, always happy to offer a recommendation or share a story. It’s a favourite among locals, tourists and students alike, and there’s something magical about overhearing drama students running lines in the corner, all adds to the character of the place. Whether you’re after a memorable meal, a quality pint, or just a proper pub experience, The Raven is an absolute must when in Bath.

Excellent stew and bangers and mash, and generous portions, we had a great and very filling dinner! Lots of interesting beers and some nice wines. Very cosy atmosphere with several levels and bar stands on each one.

We had a family meal here and everything was delicious. We ordered the free range pie and the Heidi pie while our son had the chicken and bacon sandwich. The atmosphere was warm and inviting (we enjoyed the provided games). And the flight of beer was beautifully presented. We would come back!
