About This Pub

You know, chatting about The Royal Standard feels like sharing tips over a pint with mates – it's got that warm, characterful charm right on the edge of Blackheath and Greenwich Park, making it a go-to for a laid-back day out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the service is genuinely top-notch; folks like Adam and Aidan rave about the friendly faces behind the bar and in the kitchen, who go out of their way to make your visit memorable. The food? Well, it's a highlight – Natsumi's enthusiasm for the camembert and truffle fries had me itching to try them myself, and Trinh's party sounded like a blast with portions that hit the spot. Pair that with the lively atmosphere, great tunes, and those live bands that pop up, and you've got a proper gem for whiling away an afternoon in the beer garden. On the downside, it's not all perfect; some have mentioned it's a bit steep on the prices, like Kate did with her lunch, and there might be the odd slip-up with a dish, but the team seems quick to sort things out. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a welcoming pub experience in London – worth a visit for the good vibes, even if you keep an eye on the bill.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The service is absolutely spot-on – friendly, polite staff who make you feel right at home, like they did for Adam with his excellent barman experience.
  • The food is a real treat, with rave reviews for dishes like truffle fries, camembert, and prawns that sound utterly delicious and leave you wanting more.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, complete with good music, live bands now and then, and that amazing beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun.
  • The location is a winner, right near Blackheath and Greenwich Park, making it easy to pop in after a wander, and it's even dog-friendly for those with furry mates.
  • They've got a welcoming vibe overall, with a private function room for parties or gatherings, as Trinh N found out with her schoolgirls' bash – everyone had a fantastic time.
Cons
  • The food can feel a bit overpriced for what you get, as Kate pointed out with her lunch; it's tasty but might not justify the cost for everyday eats.
  • There are occasional hiccups with the dishes, like the issue Kate had with her pie, though the team handled it well, it's still something to keep in mind.
  • While most experiences are positive, it might not suit everyone if you're after something super budget-friendly or consistently flawless every visit.

Had an amazing time at The Royal Standard ! The food was SO YUMMY !! We ordered the camembert, truffle fries, and prawns and chorizos :) Literally melted when I ate the camembert and the truffle fries were super truffle-y !! 🕺🏻🙏🤤 The prawns were amazing - literally soaked all the oil with their homemade sourdough !! I only wish that there were more prawns :(( Overall the service was fine - the staff were very friendly :) and the atmosphere was definitely 10/10 ! We’ll definitely be coming back 😄😄

We absolutely love this pub, has great atmosphere, food, drinks and service.. especially Laton thank you always. Plays good music, has some great live bands from time to time and amazing beer garden. It really is a great all round pub. We go to many pubs in London and this is our favourite! Does a great roast also 🤗

Went for lunch with uncle to enjoy the rugby. Had a ok to good lunch. Uncle had the schnitzel which had thickness, crisp and juiciness to it. I had the pie and mash. I had an issue with mine but that was dealt with very well by the team. Food though is rather overpriced for what it is. Most is not home made and just a bit pricy for bung in the oven food. I could understand prices if food homemade - they need to knock a few quid off each dish. Or just make homemade food - it’s a very simple menu so could be easily done. But great service and environment, - sort the food out and it will be fantastic.

Hosted a party here for 20 schoolgirls just before Christmas, who all had a wonderful time :) the service was top notch and the food was fantastic! We've also had lunch here before, 5*portion, taste and quality. Thanks to the team, you make it hard not to return 😊
