About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local haunt in Blackburn, you know? I've got to say, the Sunday lunches are an absolute treat; the food's spot on, the prices won't break the bank, and there's that warm, old-school atmosphere that makes you want to linger a bit longer. The staff can be friendly and efficient, which is always a plus when you're settling in for a chat. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – the beer selection is a letdown with no cask ales or mild, and sometimes the supplies are hit and miss, which might frustrate you if you're after something specific. Plus, there are tales of staff not going the extra mile, like being reluctant to top up a pint or not showing much compassion in sensitive situations, which could put a damper on things. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area for a casual bite and a drink, but keep your expectations in check and maybe plan around their stronger points.

Some staff seem a tad indifferent, with a general couldn't-care-less attitude that can dampen the experience.
-
There have been issues with things like not topping up pints properly or a lack of compassion in certain situations, which isn't ideal for everyone.

Pub for sale...No cask beer. No mild. Lager supply hit and miss. General couldn't case less attitude. Bar staff doing their best inspite of conditions.
Nice pub serving one cask ale. Manager reluctant to top up the beer to a full pint. Friendly clientele. Enjoyed the visit.
Need to be more compassionate towards mental health..
I was taking my wife out on leave with our little boy as she had been really unwell in hospital with her mental health. My wife is the most loving, caring person who would never hurt any one or cause any scenes, she was only ever a risk to herself but definitely not with our child there. I asked if we could have two tables so the staff could have their own table and we could have some privacy just too be asked the most insensitive questions like "she's not going to start kicking off is she" and being told things like "can you be quick" and "first sign of trouble she's out" this was last year but I've just been doing some review and thought I had tonwrite about this experience as now she's well and doing better she can not believe she allowed them to talk to her like that. Just because she had struggles does not make her violent or aggressive. Please go and take some classes compassion. The staff we was with were appalled and said were not staying here with people that rude and we ended up going somewhere else.
Excellent Sunday lunch here. Food great, prices reasonable and a good old fashioned pub atmosphere. Had this lunch a few times now and we will be back.
Quite a small near pub. Card game table when I went as well. Probs do sports but this is a small place limited cider choice but quick friendly service with a smile.
