About This Pub

Ah, Hare & Hounds Free House, what a gem of a spot in Blackburn! From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that classic pub charm that's just spot on for a laid-back evening. The beers are where it really shines – folks rave about the excellent selection of cask ales, always served up in prime condition, which makes it a must-visit if you're a beer enthusiast. The atmosphere is another highlight; it's got this friendly, community vibe that makes you feel like you're among mates, with staff who go the extra mile to make sure everything's just right. And on a sunny day, the outdoor areas are a nice touch for soaking up the fresh air. On the flip side, though, it's not the best if you're hoping for a hearty meal – it's more drinks-focused, so you might want to grab a bite elsewhere first. Plus, the opening times can be a tad inconsistent, so it's wise to check ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual night out, especially if you're local or fancy a proper traditional pub experience without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of cask ales that are always in top condition – perfect for anyone who loves a good pint.
  • It's got a really welcoming atmosphere, making it feel like a proper local spot where you're made to feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The staff are friendly and provide excellent service, adding to that cosy, community vibe that's hard to beat.
  • Outdoor facilities are great for when the weather's nice, giving you a lovely spot to enjoy your drink.
Cons
  • It's not the place to go if you're after a proper meal, as food options are limited and it's more focused on drinks than dining.
  • There might be some confusion with the opening hours, as they vary a bit, so it's worth double-checking before heading out.
  • Being a small local pub, it might not have the buzz of a bigger venue if you're after something more lively or varied.

Excellent place for a beer. Great atmosphere and a brilliant local. Food can be arranged for functions but this is not a food pub unfortunately. Full marks.

After a prolonged bus journey from Blackburn bus station due to horrendous delays caused by four way temporary traffic lights, I was relieved to find a good choice of handpumped beers in excellent condition. Moreover the local clientele were very welcoming and the lady behind the bar could not have been more helpful in making sure I got a taxi. A fabulous example of just why we need our Pubs.

First visit and we will definitely be back! Excellent range of cask ales and a very nice pinot grigo. Very good service too. Can't wait to sit indoors but the outside facilities are great. Cheers.
