About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Royal Hotel & Bar – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a laid-back evening or a quick getaway in Lancaster. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the atmosphere is proper quaint and inviting, with a bar that's well-stocked with a variety of drinks and that new beer garden adding a lovely outdoor option for sunnier days. The staff really stand out; they're so friendly and eager to make your visit memorable, whether you're just there for a drink or settling in for the night. On the plus side, the rooms are surprisingly spacious and spotlessly clean, with comfy beds and thoughtful extras like breakfast trays that make you feel looked after. It's bang in the city centre, so you're never far from all the action, which is brilliant if you're out exploring. But, to keep it real, there are a couple of niggles – you might have to plan ahead for things like extra towels, and the lack of clear opening times could catch you out if you're hoping for a spontaneous pint. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after a welcoming spot that combines good drinks with a comfortable stay, and I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone wanting a bit of that homely pub feel without the crowds.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The rooms are spacious, incredibly clean, and offer a cosy, welcoming vibe that's perfect for a relaxing stay in the heart of Lancaster.
  • Staff are absolutely lovely and always ready to help, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.
  • It's in a brilliant central location, just a short walk from the train station, shops, and lively nightlife, so you can easily explore the city.
  • They've got a great selection of beers, wines, and spirits in the bar, plus a new beer garden that's ideal for enjoying a pint outdoors.
  • Little touches like the premade breakfast trays, comfy beds, and a £5 bar voucher for booking direct add real value and make it feel thoughtful.
Cons
  • You might need to ask for extra towels in advance, as it's not always straightforward to get them.
  • The operating hours aren't clearly listed, which could leave you guessing about when the bar is open, especially if you're popping in spontaneously.
  • While it's got a charming hotel vibe, it might feel a bit more focused on overnight stays than a pure pub experience, so it could be quieter than some bustling spots.

This is a quaint and cosy place to stay. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of our room. Was also pleased with noise from the bar and garden not traveling up to the rooms. They offer a premade breakfast tray. Would stay again.

Was so pleasantly surprised by this place. Rooms were spacious, EXTREMELY CLEAN, and well set up. 10 min walk from train station and tons of food and shopping nearby. Would definitely stay here again. Only thing I might suggest is asking for extra towels ahead of time.

Room was really comfy with a good breakfast basket, and £5 bar tab for booking direct. Booked really late and staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Amazing stay here. The staff are lovely and couldn't do enough for us! The beds are comfy, and the breakfast basket is a nice, thoughtful touch. The pub/bar attached is nicely decorated and has an array of drinks available. Good, central location too, in the centre of Lancaster and only a 10 minute walk from the station. Thank you for having us!
