About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Exchange Bathams is one of those pubs that just pulls you in with its rich history and that unmistakable Black Country charm – it's been a family affair for generations, brewing up beers that have won fans far and wide. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the beer is the real star of the show; people can't stop going on about how well-kept the Bathams Bitter and Mild are, with that hoppy kick and smooth finish that leaves you wanting another round. The staff are absolute gems, always ready with a smile and a good yarn, and the whole place has this lively, community feel that makes it feel less like a quick stop and more like catching up with old mates. It's spot on for a relaxed afternoon or evening pint, and at decent prices too, you get solid value without breaking the bank. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – the inside space is on the small side, so if it's heaving, you might end up jostling for elbow room or waiting a tick for service. Plus, with prices inching up lately, it might not be the bargain it once was, and the beer garden, while nice, isn't much use when the British weather decides to play up. Overall, if you're in Stourbridge and fancy a proper pub experience with top-notch brews and a friendly crowd, it's well worth popping in – just go with the flow and you'll have a grand time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer is absolutely spot on – especially the Bathams Bitter and Mild, which folks rave about as some of the best around, with that perfect balance of flavour and freshness.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got that genuine, lively traditional pub atmosphere, full of character and a real sense of community that makes every visit memorable.
-
Prices are generally good value, like grabbing a pint of Bathams Mild for under three quid, which is a nice treat these days.
-
The beer garden is spacious and a great spot when the weather's on your side, adding a bit of variety to your pint-sipping experience.
Cons
-
The bar and lounge areas can feel a bit cramped when it gets busy, which might make it tricky to find a comfortable spot during peak times.
-
Prices have crept up a little recently, so you might notice your favourite brew costing a bit more than expected, which could sting the wallet.
-
Outdoor seating is lovely, but it's not ideal in the colder months, leaving you stuck inside if the weather turns.

Proper pub, great beer, brilliant staff (including a self professed "ale master"!) and truly fabulous, if a bit errrr...... unique, customers.
I loved this pub and thoroughly enjoyed their Bathams. On a trip to Stourbridge I spotted the pub on the drive in and decided to stop for a pint. Glad I did. It was an excellent pint, superior to the Bathams I can get near me in Wolverhampton. Don’t know if that’s to do with well kept cellars or it’s better when it doesn’t have to travel out of the Black Country.
The pub is a fairly typical old Black Country Pub. Bar was pretty full of locals enjoying a lunchtime natter and beer. The accents would be impenetrable to an outsider but that’s something I don’t have a problem with being a Brummie who’s lived and worked near Wolverhampton for years!
I didn’t try any food but the ham, cheese cobs etc. looked a generous size and plenty were being bought.
Got to go back to Stourbridge soon and will definitely go in again. Great place.
A proper traditional, lively black country boozer. Friendly and welcoming staff, lots of atmosphere and well kept beer. A must if you're ever in the area
Thoroughly recommend this lovely local pub! We were made really welcome by both the staff and locals alike. I’m a great fan of Bathams Mild - lovely pint of beer for £2.80. Filled cobs for sale.
Really good Bathams public house. Well worth a visit. Bar and lounge too small in my opinion though because this is a very good and popular watering hole. Spacious beer garden but the wrong time of year to sit outdoors . But, like most pubs ale has been inceased in price. Bathams bitter £3;65p Although the mild is only £2;85. As normal thou. Nectar of the gods....👍
