About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Rosebery, it just brings a smile – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local haunt, even if you're visiting from afar. The food really steals the show; their roasts are spot on, with juicy meats that pull apart effortlessly and plenty of veggie choices too, all made with local flair that makes you appreciate the effort. Pair that with the friendly staff who bend over backwards to fit you in, even on a hectic weekend, and you've got a winning combination. The atmosphere is dead cosy, with a wood burner crackling away and that cheeky cat Andy wandering about, making it ideal for a relaxed afternoon or evening. But let's be honest, it's not without its quirks – it's a tad removed from the city centre, so you might need to plan your journey, and the menu, while packed with quality, doesn't have loads of options, which could leave you wanting more variety. Plus, it can get a bit noisy when it's buzzing, which is fun if you're up for it, but not so great for a quiet catch-up. All in all, it's a brilliant spot for anyone after a genuine, heartfelt pub experience in Norwich, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on, especially the roasts which are juicy, full of flavour, and made with local ingredients – a real treat for a Sunday lunch.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, even when it's packed, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a cosy, welcoming atmosphere with a wood burner and even a resident cat named Andy, perfect for those chilly evenings in Norwich.
  • A great selection of cask ales and an excellent wine list, so there's something for everyone whether you're after a pint or a glass with your meal.
  • With such high ratings and glowing feedback, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a memorable pub experience that keeps people coming back.
Cons
  • It's a bit out of the way from the city centre, tucked into a quiet network of terraced houses, which might mean a longer walk or taxi ride if you're not local.
  • The menu is on the small side, though it's varied and focuses on quality local items, so you might not find a huge range of options if you're feeling indecisive.
  • It can get quite loud at times, which adds to the lively vibe but might make it tricky for a relaxed chat over drinks on busier days.

Thank you to all at The Rosebery. This is a wonderful pub and the room with lovely big bathroom was great. When we arrived my heart sank - The pub is on the corner of a little network of terraced houses, further from the city centre than I thought. However, this place is a real gem. Every day we were there there was a good mix of interesting people in the bar, eating the delicious food, watching a rugby match or listening to entertaining live music. The staff are super-friendly. I think it has an indie vibe to it - all very individual. We were disappointed to not be able to have the Sunday lunch as the place is fully-booked well in advance! In fact it is quite a pleasant walk into the city centre too so you can leave your car in the pub car park (reserved places for B&B guests) and enjoy a stroll through the more interesting streets of Norwich. I confidently recommend The Rosebery.

Staff were able to squeeze us in on the evening of a busy weekend. Service was good considering it was really quite busy. The menu was quite small, but seemed as though there is a lot of local items on the menu. The menu is pretty varied so it doesn’t matter that it’s small. The food we received was great quality and super tasty too. Excellent portion size. (Chicken Kiev and Steak) It was a little more pricey than your average pub food, however, for the quality and the fact that some of the menu is sourced locally, you can accept paying a little more. We will definitely be returning to The Rosebery, for future drinks and to eat! 😁

A lunchtime visit on a bright, icy winters day in late November. A gorgous Victorian pub which is comforting, friendly and boosting a wood burner and local cat called Andy. Six cask ales, all in top condition. A short but delicious menu with dishes that are packed in flavour and beautifully crafted. I wish it was my local.

We had a gorgeous Sunday roast trying the pork and chicken - excellent food, amazing service, very, very loud. Food - The food was excellent, I've had a great many roasts in my time and this was one of the best, as you can see in the video the pork pulled apart with a fork and it was so juicy, the chicken came as a supreme and was very generous, the only thing worth mentioning as a negative is there was such a variety of veg that the portions of each felt mean (that's subjective and barely worth mentioning) Service - Fantastic all the way, ordering is split between food and drinks, food is ordered at the table and drinks are ordered at the bar. The server took our order really quick and the food came out very fast. They were attentive but not intrusive, A+. Drink service was swift and professional, we had soft drinks and after I had ordered they were brought straight to the table, again, this was swift. A service charge is added to the bill. Atmosphere - The bar itself is aesthetically pleasing with a reclaimed, hipsterish vibe. It's a massive open space with the bar in the centre and this is where the issues begin. It's loud, aggressively loud, I couldn't hear my partner or the staff at all and given the complete lack of soft furnishings every sound echoes around and around. As someone with sensory issues I struggled. The seating and tables are mismatched which is cute but I barely managed to get my legs under the table as the seats were too tall, the tables are also packed in close and I spent half my meal with my back touching the person behind me. There is a soft seating area at the back of the bar which I didn't see until I had already eaten, it's a much quieter and more comfortable area and I really wish I had seen it earlier. To be clear it's pretty and if you're into the whole community eating, cacophony thing, it's a good atmosphere. Accessibility - Poor, it's very tight, you won't get a wheelchair through it, it's loud so bad for people with sensory issues, there's no parking lot so you take your chances on the very tight streets outside and you'll struggle to order drinks as there are tables surrounding the bar.

After hearing about the roast dinners at The Rosebery it was time to book in and I was not disappointed. The service and food were perfect and the kids portion was a good size to keep the little one busy. Plenty of choice with different meats, veggie options as well. The wine list is excellent and a couple of glasses of fizz were had! I will definitely be booking again.
