About This Pub

Ah, The Angel Gardens – it's one of those pubs that you wander into and think, 'This could be a right nice spot for a pint with mates.' From what I've gathered from the reviews, they've nailed the drinks side of things with a great range of real ales and other options, perfect for settling in with the footie on Sky Sports. The food's another winner, especially their Sunday lunches, which folks rave about for being hearty, flavoursome, and good value – plenty to go around without breaking the bank. And the staff? They're a friendly bunch, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. On the flip side, it's clear the pub's seen better days; some say it's gone a bit downhill since the previous owner stepped away, and it definitely needs a bit of TLC to sort out the worn-out bits. That unusual layout with the snug area might throw you off at first, and there have been mentions of quiet nights or the odd disturbance, which can put a dampener on things. All in all, though, it's a decent choice for a relaxed outing, as long as you go in with realistic expectations – the good bits outweigh the rough edges, making it worth a visit if you're in Norwich.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, including some top-notch real ales that really hit the spot
  • The food is spot on, especially the Sunday roasts with generous portions and tasty options for different tastes
  • The staff are always welcoming and helpful, making you feel right at home from the get-go
  • Facilities like the toilets are kept clean, and there's a handy covered seating area out front for a bit of fresh air
Cons
  • The place feels a bit tired and could do with a proper renovation to freshen things up
  • The layout's a tad odd, with that little snug area that might confuse things for a relaxed evening
  • It's had some ups and downs lately, with reports of it going downhill since the old owner retired, leading to inconsistent vibes

Recent Reviews

Was fairly quiet for a Friday night. There was a couple kicking off, but the pub had a nice selection of drinks and Sky sports main event was on. The toilets were clean enough and there is a covered seating area out the front. Strange layout with a little snug area at the front on ground level and a further bar near the toilets up a few stairs.

Not sure about these past reviews as my most recent experience was certainly a bad one. I've visited this pub on numerous occasions over the last 7 years and unfortunately this has now gone downhill since the previous owner has retired, the pub is in desperate need of a renovation or at least some fresh paint on the walls and ceilings, there are tatty pictures and old trophies sitting on shelves, the TV was tiny and the tables sticky, come on bring it up to date. It has lost a lot of the old clientele and they seem to have been replaced by teenagers who on my last visit appeared to be engaging in what I can only say as questionable behaviour (entering and exiting the pub continuously to speak to random people who just happened to be walking by, you can come to your own conclusions) I agree previously this pub had a good community atmosphere and the sunday roasts were great but the new owners need to seriously think about sprucing this place up and think long and hard about who they want drinking in there, unfortunately that won't be me as I'll be spending my hard earnt wages elsewhere.

Have to admit, looking at it as we drove past we weren't expecting great things but I'll happily say we wrong. The Sunday lunch was great, tasty and plenty of food at a reasonable price. The staff were lovely and helpful. All in all a great Sunday lunch
