About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Rose & Crown Inn – it's one of those cosy spots in the Peak District that just feels like a proper escape from the hustle. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are the heart of the place; they're so friendly and attentive, like chatting with old mates who know just how to make your visit special, even squeezing you in on a packed day. The food? Oh, it's a winner – think hearty roasts and fresh, flavourful dishes that leave you satisfied and smiling, with options for everyone, including vegans. And the location is just breathtaking, especially if you snag a seat in the garden with those spectacular views; it's perfect for unwinding after a ramble. But, to keep it real, it's not without its quirks – the pub's closed a couple of days a week and has fairly early finishes, so you'll want to plan ahead to avoid disappointment. Plus, while there's good parking, it can be a bit tricky to find at first glance. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back meal with friends or family, and with such high praise from folks who've been, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel at home, even if you pop in without a booking.
  • The food is spot on – fresh, home-cooked country classics like beef roasts and vegan options that are packed with flavour and made with real care.
  • It's set in the stunning Peak District with spectacular views, especially from the back garden, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing meal.
  • They're super dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk and fancy a stop-off with your furry friend.
  • Plenty of parking available, and they manage to accommodate busy crowds without much fuss.
Cons
  • It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so you'll need to check the times in advance if you're planning a visit.
  • The parking isn't always easy to spot, which might lead to a bit of confusion when you're trying to find your way in.
  • Opening hours are a tad limited, with early closures on some days, so it might not suit spontaneous evenings out.

Turned up 4pm on a busy Sunday without a booking for food with two boxer dogs. Staff couldn’t do enough to fit us in. Fabulous beef roast dinner and pork and ham roast dinner. Will be returning over remaining days of our stay in Flash near Buxton. Highly recommended.

Very friendly staff, very welcoming. Food was absolutely stunning. We sat in the back garden and oh my the view are absolutely spectacular. There is plenty of parking to the side of the pub you just need to go up a little hill to the right it wasn't very well marked, we almost didn't stop. Glad we found it.

My partner and I were staying in the area and found the Rose & Crown when looking for somewhere for a late lunch/early dinner. The staff were super friendly when we arrived, and although they were extremely busy and fully booked, they managed to squeeze us in! The food was absolutely amazing - probably the best meal out we've had in years; my partner had the Lamb Henry, which I tasted and was divine, perfectly cooked & seasoned melt-in-the mouth lamb which was falling off the bone and beautifully tender. I had one of the specials; a beef and venison pie, the crust was mouth-wateringly crisp and again the meat was cooked perfectly; moist and tender, with just the right amount of bite but without being chewy at all. It was served with some deliciously crispy chips, some creamy leeks topped with melted cheese, and some vegetables, all of which were also cooked to perfection. We finished up with a bread and butter pudding for my partner, and a lemon meringue parfait for me. The bread and butter pudding was again cooked perfectly, full of flavour, and really moist, without being soggy. The lemon meringue parfait was deliciously tart and refreshing, with loads of lemon flavour and just the right mix of sweet/sour/creamy. We would thoroughly recommend visiting if you're in the area; perfect food and service and all at a reasonable price, just make sure you book ahead!!

We stumbled upon Restaurant The rose & Crown by chance, and from the moment we walked in, we knew we were in the right place. The local food was absolutely *out of this world* – fresh, flavorful, and made with love. Luda, the owner, is simply wonderful – warm, funny, and incredibly welcoming. She hosted us so generously, and we truly enjoyed chatting with her throughout the evening. It was a British-style experience with a local soul. Highly recommended – we’ll definitely be back!

Great Pub in a nice location. High quality freshly cooked food with plenty of parking and friendly staff. We were served by the Landlady who was very welcoming. She described the food items to us and gave recommendations - very friendly throughout our visit. I had the Vegan Wellington which did not disappoint - others had Steak & Ale pie and were of the same opinion. Dog friendly and very cosy with open fires in each room. Would definitely recommend.
