About This Pub

Ah, Leather's Smithy – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its charming vibe and promise of a good meal. From what I've gathered, they really shine when it comes to the food; think hearty Sunday roasts with perfectly cooked veggies and massive portions of fresh fish that leave you smiling. The staff are a delight, full of banter and quick service, which adds to that relaxed, traditional pub feel. It's brilliant for families or if you're popping in with the dog after a walk in the nearby woods. On the flip side, though, not every dish hits the mark – a few mates mentioned the burgers and puds falling a bit flat, and it can feel pricey for a standard meal. Still, with their top-notch ales and wines, it's a solid choice for a catch-up, as long as you go in with realistic hopes and maybe skip the desserts if you're feeling picky. Overall, it's a welcoming spot that does a lot right, and I'd say it's worth a visit for anyone in the Macclesfield area looking for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a cracking selection of dishes, including brilliant vegetarian and vegan options that really stand out.
  • It's a welcoming spot with friendly staff who have a great sense of humour, making you feel right at home, and it's super family-friendly with a dedicated children's menu.
  • They've got some of the best cask ales and fine wines in the area, plus it's dog-friendly and set in beautiful surroundings, perfect for a relaxing day out.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss, like the burgers or desserts that left a few folks disappointed, so it might not always live up to expectations.
  • Prices are on the higher side for what you get, especially for things like roasts, which could feel a tad expensive if it's not quite up to scratch.
  • Parking can get a bit tight when it's busy, and you might end up road parking, which isn't ideal on a crowded day.

Lunch today was lovely...the fish is HUGE 🐟😋. The waiting that served us was very good and a great sence of humour 🫣🤣

Great spot for a Sunday lunch! The food was delicious and everything cooked perfectly, very juicy roast beef and loads of gravy as standard. Very prompt service. Amble parking for customers, just put the car registration number in at the till when you arrive. Dog friendly.

Not a bad pub to stop at. Cosy place with friendly staff. Drinks fair as any pub you'd expect. Not much space parking i imagine it could get busy at times but some cars were road parking and that looked fine. Food not great, actually disappointed with it. Quite expensive for a roast dinner of this quality and small portion. Beef was only a small piece and no taste to it. Vegetables bland but they're veg I guess. "Roast" potatoes are actually just a potato cut in half and boiled by the look and taste of it. Shame as price indicated it would be better.

Lovely pub in a beautiful location and with great food. We had delicious Sunday roast dinners and tried almost every pudding on the menu. Everything was fab! I find that roast dinner vegetables are too often bland and overcooked— but not here! They were perfect. We had hummus flatbread and olives as starters and they were delicious too.

We stopped here after a long walk. The food overall was good, good portion size, albeit the burger left my friend disappointed. The starters were great and presented well (£7). The roast (£19) and gammon were tasty. My friends had desserts (£7.50) and left a little disappointed by them as felt shop bought and minimal custard given. Those delivering the food and clearing the tables were great and attentive, however we felt the bar staff were a little offish. When ordering food, we ordered the roast with Yorkshire as per the menu and got a huff ‘I will have to see if there is some spare’ reference to the Yorkshire. Yet it was a menu option. We also asked if they had a pineapple juice and just got a flat no, rather than no, but we have apple or j20 as an alternative. It is very conveniently placed but a little pricey. The area for ‘muddy boots’ is somewhat small, and there is a lot of footfall so be prepared to wait for a table.
