About This Pub
Oh, what a treat The Rope & Anchor is – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper escape from the hustle and bustle. I love how they've nailed the country inn vibe, with seasonal menus packed full of tasty options like slow-braised pork belly or their legendary Brewery Tower Burger; it's all so fresh and flavoursome, you'd be hard-pressed not to find something to suit. The team there are an absolute joy, always on hand with a smile and that extra touch of care, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or celebrating something special. And let's not forget the beer garden – it's a sunny spot that makes you want to linger with one of their excellent brews from the Boilerhouse range. On the flip side, it does fill up fast, so planning ahead is key, and the costs can mount up if you're not watching the tab. Plus, with earlier closing times, it's more suited to an afternoon or evening wind-down rather than a full night out. All in all, it's a real gem if you're in the area, blending great grub, a welcoming feel, and that classic pub charm without trying too hard.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely fantastic, with fresh seasonal dishes like pan-fried seabass and homemade pies that leave you wanting more.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making everyone feel special, whether it's a birthday celebration or just a casual visit.
-
It's got a charming atmosphere with cosy open fires for chilly days and a spacious beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint.
-
A great selection of beers from their own brewery, including cask ales and limited-edition options, ideal for beer enthusiasts.
-
Wonderfully located near walking routes, making it a brilliant spot for a post-adventure meal or drink with family or friends.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, so you might need to book in advance to avoid disappointment, especially on weekends.
-
Prices are on the moderate side, which might add up if you're planning a big meal or drinks with a group.
-
Closing times are a bit early, particularly on Sundays at 9pm, so it's not the place for a late-night outing.
-
Being in a rural area, it could be tricky to get to without a car, which isn't ideal for everyone.

This was our first time visiting The Rope and Anchor. I booked a table to celebrate my mums 90th birthday.
From the minute we walked in to the minute we left the staff looked after our every need. They made my mum feel special and the manager came over and wished her a happy birthday.
All the staff were friendly and attended to everything we needed.
Food was delicious and presented well.

Upon arrival, the car park was extremely clean and the landscaping around the car park was well taken care of.
As we walked into the building, we were welcomed by several staff who showed us to our table and got us started with our drinks order. We had already pre-ordered food so there was an element of ease with the initial table order.
The drinks came swiftly and the food was superb! Service was excellent throughout and management were also very attentive.
I would definitely come back here again and will be recommending!
We had the best meal in a very long time here yesterday. Called for lunch without a reservation and they accommodated my party of 3. The food quality was excellent. Lovely ambience, very friendly and attentive staff. We will definitely be returning. It made our day! 😊
