About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Dunham Barn – it's one of those places that just feels like a breath of fresh air, tucked away in the heart of Dunham Massey. I've heard from folks who've been there that the food is spot on, with homemade dishes made from the best local produce, like those delightful afternoon teas packed with finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes that leave you smiling. The breakfasts sound like winners too, all fresh and full of that authentic Cheshire flavour. What really stands out is how welcoming the team is; they're always up for helping out with events or making adjustments, which makes it perfect for celebrating with mates or even just a casual get-together. The outdoor seating is brilliant on a sunny day, and it's great that dogs are welcome, adding to that relaxed, homely atmosphere. On the other hand, things do run at a more leisurely pace, so if you're nipping in for a quick bite before dashing off, it might not quite hit the mark – but honestly, that's part of its charm if you're up for unwinding. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a taste of the good life without breaking the bank, though do keep in mind the limited opening days and the need to plan ahead for some treats. I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the Altrincham area and fancy something genuine and heartfelt.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely top-notch, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that make every bite feel special and authentic.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going the extra mile for groups, events, or even last-minute changes like preparing takeaways.
  • It's got a lovely countryside vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and being pet-friendly means you can bring the dog along for the outing.
  • Ample parking makes it a breeze to visit, especially if you're popping in after a walk in the area.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit relaxed, so if you're in a rush, you might find yourself waiting a little longer for things to come together.
  • It's only open five days a week, which could be a shame if you're hoping to drop by on a quiet Sunday.
  • Some popular items like afternoon tea need booking in advance with 24 hours' notice, so spontaneity isn't always an option.

We had a delicious afternoon tea at Dunham Barn. Great service, lovely presentation and a fabulous selection of fresh sandwiches, cakes and scone. The staff also very kindly prepared 2 takeaway teas for my uncle and aunt who couldn't make it due to illness. Nothing was too much trouble and would definitely recommend.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The breakfast at The Dunham Barn is simply superb—undoubtedly the best I’ve ever had! The fresh, local produce truly shines through in every bite, making the meal not only delicious but also completely authentic. The head chef and staff are a true credit to this establishment, ensuring that every detail is perfect and adding warmth to the whole experience. Set on the edge of Dunham Massey Park, the atmosphere is just as perfect as the food. On this sunny Spring morning, with birds singing and sunlight dancing across the picturesque surroundings, it feels like a little slice of perfection away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The relaxed vibe and the joy of seeing people enjoying themselves adds to the charm. The Dunham Barn is a must-visit—an unforgettable experience! Get yourself down there and you won’t regret it!

Good food and cake selection. Bacon butties are great, and there's good gluten free options. Service speed is a little relaxed so if you're in a rush, this might not be the best but it's absolutely fine for a chill afternoon cuppa

I've been to the Dunham Barn many times but had to review after the excellent service on Saturday! We had the afternoon tea to celebrate a friend's engagement - they let us set up balloons in the room 1hr-30 mins before which was brilliant. Staff were friendly, welcoming and couldn't have been more accommodating! Great selection of hot drinks, cold drinks, food and cakes. We had the afternoon tea for a friend's celebration and there was plenty as we had to take some home in to go bags! Sandwiches, scones and chocolate treats with macaroons. They catered to dietary requirements as a friend was gluten free. Would highly recommend!
