About This Pub

Ah, The Roebuck – it's one of those pubs that really takes you back to the good old days, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, welcoming vibe with staff who go out of their way to make you feel at ease, which is always a winner when you're popping in for a pint. The quiet atmosphere is perfect if you're after a bit of downtime, maybe playing a game of pool or darts with your pals, and that traditional setup with the leaded glass windows just adds to the charm. It's got a solid 4.0 rating, which shows plenty of folks appreciate that straightforward, relaxed approach. On the flip side, though, it's not for everyone – the strict no-phones, no-loud-talking rules can feel a bit heavy-handed and take the edge off the fun, especially if you're used to a more casual spot. And let's be honest, the lack of music, TV, or even options like real ale might leave you wanting more variety, making it seem a touch outdated. Still, if you're in Rochdale and fancy a proper, unhurried pub experience, it's worth a go – just keep in mind it might not be the place for a boisterous night out. Overall, it's got that honest, community feel that's hard to beat, but balance it with your own preferences for the best visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's a lovely spot for a quiet, relaxing pint, with that classic traditional pub atmosphere that lets you unwind.
  • They've got a pool table and dart board, which are great for a bit of fun with mates without any distractions.
  • The old-school charm, like those leaded glass windows, gives it a real nostalgic feel that's quite endearing.
Cons
  • The strict rules, like no loud chatting or using your phone, can make it feel a bit too rigid and spoil the fun for some.
  • No music, TV, or even certain drinks like real ale, which means it might not have the variety you'd expect in a modern pub.
  • It can come across as a tad outdated, and I've heard it's often quiet, which isn't ideal if you're after a lively Saturday night.
  • Some folks find the restrictions confusing or off-putting, like not being able to buy a bottle of wine, which adds to the old-fashioned vibe.

Another Samuel Smith public house serving Taddy’s. Quiet, relaxing and friendly service. Pool table, no music or mobile phones, swearing etc. but a decent place to go for a quiet pint

Called in with the family and was made to feel very welcome. Lovely landlady who explained why I couldn't buy a bottle of wine but it still seemed a bit strange, still enjoyed it though

It's a lovely old pub. Leaded glass widows. No TV or jukebox to spoil it. We felt welcome. Can't give it give stars because no real ale in sale. I had a bottle of organic apricot beer which was good but more of a challenge than the raspberry one.
