About This Pub

Ah, The Risley Park – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? Tucked away on Derby Road, it's got that timeless charm with a bit of a fresh upgrade, thanks to the new owners sprucing things up. I love how they've kept the historic feel while adding in some exciting menus featuring high-quality, locally sourced dishes – think seasonal specials and classics done right, perfect for a relaxed meal with mates. The outdoor seating is brilliant for a pint in the sunshine, and inside, the decor's just cosy enough to make you want to linger. On the flip side, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard a few tales of service being a bit slow or staff not quite on top of things, and some folks have mentioned meals that were a tad dry or underwhelming, which is a shame when the potential is there. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth popping in if you're nearby, especially for events or a Sunday roast, but maybe plan for a day when you're not in a hurry – that way, you can enjoy the good bits without getting frustrated.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a mix of classic pub favourites and innovative twists that really hit the mark
  • It's got a lovely, welcoming atmosphere, blending historic charm with cosy decor and great outdoor seating for those sunny days
  • Service can be top-notch when it's on form, with friendly staff going the extra mile to make you feel at home
Cons
  • Service might be a bit hit or miss, with some reports of it being slow or staff seeming a tad unsure, which can put a dampener on things
  • A few meals have come out dry or not quite up to scratch, especially with portions that don't always live up to expectations

What can I say 🤷 The place wasn't busy, we booked a table for 10, we ordered dinner 45 minutes later it arrives, could do much better, staff don't seem to know what they were doing, we hardly had time to try our food before a staff member and the manager came over, (is everything alright) how would you know ? We waited & waiting for the bill and gave up & went to the bar to pay separately. What a joke 🙄 the staff didn't even know how to split the bill. If you want a nice stress free enjoyable meal fund somewhere else.

Delicious food and really good value on the early diner menu, which is available on Saturday lunch. Lovely restaurant room, but service was a little slow. We will be back again.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Risley Park, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was nothing short of fantastic. Both the roast dinner and the Cajun chicken meal were highlights, each prepared to perfection with high-quality ingredients. The venue itself is amazing, providing a welcoming and stylish ambiance that enhances the dining experience. What truly stood out was the staff, who went above and beyond to ensure our visit was memorable. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality made us feel valued and well-cared for. The lunchtime menu offers great value for money, delivering high-quality food at reasonable prices. I can't fault our experience at all. I highly recommend Risley Park for anyone looking for a delightful meal with outstanding service.

First time being in this place as it was recommended from a nearby hotel. We ordered the Sunday dinner roast. And was a bit confused after seeing many reviews of people getting this it looked good but when we got ours we only had a few items on the plate and the food was very dry and hard to swallow. we had to share our peas, carrots and broccoli between two people which were given to us on a separate little dash not really what I expected but seen other people had been given a full normal Sunday roast with everything on their plate. Given this was priced higher than average we kinda expected to be good. When we arrived and had our order taken the staff member didn't seem very polite. Possibly having a bad shift but still left my partner feeling uncomfortable.

Had a delicous meal here with my besties. It has a great outdoor setting and seating. Inside the decor is lovely and liked the semi circular seating in parts of the restaurant. Darling, the manager and his staff could not do enough for us. The service and attention were excellent. The food was delicous the infamous steak pie was as good as we were told and the chicken Diane left you wanting more. Good selection of wines too. Will definitely come here again.
