About This Pub

Oh, what a gem The Rising Sun is – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local haunt, tucked away in Mill Hill with its rich history dating back to the 16th century. I've got to say, the food really steals the show; it's all about those fresh, flavour-packed Italian dishes with a clever Asian twist, and from what I've heard from mates who've been, the pizzas and desserts are spot on for a satisfying meal. The service is another highlight – the team there are so friendly and on point, even on a packed evening, which makes it easy to see why it's got such glowing feedback. But, on the flip side, do keep an eye on their opening times because it's closed on Mondays and has some quiet days, and if you're just popping in for a drink, you might need to plan around their reservation policy. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed dinner or a Sunday treat, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area – just balance those high points with the occasional hiccups, and you'll have a lovely time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot-on, with delicious Italian-inspired dishes and a touch of Asian flair – their pizzas are a real taste of Napoli, and don't miss the tiramisu, it's pure bliss!
  • The service is top-notch; the staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, even when the place is buzzing, making you feel right at home.
  • It's a cosy, historic spot in the heart of Mill Hill, perfect for a relaxed meal or a special occasion, with a welcoming atmosphere that keeps folks coming back.
  • They offer great options for takeaway or delivery through apps like Uber Eats, so you can enjoy their tasty meals from the comfort of your own sofa.
  • The Sunday roasts are said to rival homemade ones, adding a lovely traditional twist to their menu.
Cons
  • The opening hours can be a bit tricky, with closures on Mondays and some other days, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning a visit.
  • They don't take reservations just for drinks, which might be a hassle if you're after a quick pint without committing to a full meal.
  • It can get quite busy, especially on weekends, so you might have to wait for a table even if they accommodate walk-ins.
  • Some menu items like pizzas aren't available every day, which could disappoint if you're set on something specific.
  • Being a neighbourhood spot, it might not suit everyone if you're looking for a more vibrant, city-centre vibe.

Food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Even though the restaurant was very busy, the food arrived promptly and the servers were very friendly and forthcoming. Amazing meal to top off a nice summer's evening.

I absolutely love dining at The Rising Sun and have quite a few times. I have always had amazing service (big reason I am a returning customer) and obviously the food is fantastic. I am from Canada and the one thing that drives me crazy about the UK is the slow service. That is not an issue at the Rising Sun, I feel right at home and it is a breath of fresh air. Recently, I have had the absolute pleasure of having Beth as a server (twice now) and I only want to be served by her moving forward. Every single staff member there is BEYOND lovely and would be delighted to be served by them, but Beth definitely stands out for me. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 12 years now and it’s people like Beth who make people’s dining experience 10/10. She goes the extra mile to make sure her guests are comfortable and have the best experience possible. Being served by Beth feels like being hosted by a friend not just another server. I hope everyone gets to experience the amazing service she offers. Very happy the Rising Sun hired her she is definitely an asset to their team :)

Mill Hill is lucky to have this place - if you are looking for opulence + pub food this place blends it more than perfect, you need to have a 3 course here because you need to try every aspect of it (tiramisu is 10/10 but pistachio cheesecake also10/10)

We haven't been here for many years and made a non scheduled stop on the way home. I am so glad we did. We goto sit in our favourite part (the snug) and instead of a quick drink, we ended up eating too. The staff were fantastic (especially Joya) and we didn't feel pressured or rushed. The food was freshly cooked and tasted amazing. Highly recommended. We shall be returning

We went for dinner without reservation on Saturday after we had terrible experience from another pub. I thought we have to wait, but they accommodated us quickly and the outside table was very warm and comfortable and pretty 😍 All staff are kind and friendly. The tiramisu we had was probably the best I've ever had!! Thank you so much for making our day 🥰
