About This Pub
Ah, The Rickety Press – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its thoughtful design and lively atmosphere, tucked away in Oxford's Jericho area. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this fantastic mix of bookshelves and arty decor that creates a really unique, creative space without overwhelming the senses, and it's spacious enough to feel comfortable even on busier evenings. The food really shines, with folks raving about the burgers – that Al Capone one sounds like a winner – and the beers are nicely kept, offering a great selection of locals to enjoy. Service-wise, it's all about that warm, friendly touch that makes you want to linger a bit longer. On the flip side, while most dishes get high praise, there was a mention of the pizza being a little underwhelming, with the dough not quite up to scratch for some, so it might pay to stick to the strengths if you're unsure. Overall, it's a solid spot for a good meal and a chat, and with events like quizzes and brunches on offer, it's easy to see why it's pulling in such positive vibes from the crowd.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely charming, with a unique decor featuring books, bold typography, and graffiti-style art that makes you feel right at home.
-
The food is a real highlight – especially those burgers, which one mate reckoned are the best in Oxford, and they've got a cracking selection of local beers to wash it all down.
-
Service is spot on; the staff are friendly and make you feel welcome, adding to that cosy pub vibe.
-
It's spacious and comfortable, even when things get a bit lively, so you can relax without feeling cramped.
-
They've got fun events like brunch specials, burger Mondays, and pub quizzes, which keep things exciting for a good night out.
Cons
-
One or two dishes, like the pizza dough, might not quite hit the mark for everyone – it was a tad limp in one review, so it could be hit or miss depending on your tastes.
-
Being a popular spot, it might get busy at times, though it seems to handle the crowds well, but you could end up waiting a bit for a table.

A spacious and thoughtfully designed pub with an interesting interior.
The décor combines shelves of books, bold typography, and graffiti-style art, creating a unique and creative atmosphere without feeling overwhelming. There’s plenty of room inside, making it comfortable even when it gets busy, and a few outdoor tables for those who prefer to sit outside. A nice spot for a casual drink or catch-up, though the overall vibe depends a lot on the time of day and the crowd.
Friendly back street pub in Jericho, part of the small local ‘Dodo Pubs’ group. Great service, nicely kept beer (Arkell’s 3B) & a new menu. Excellent burger- don’t miss adding extra bacon - & a cracking pizza.
Best burger in Oxford? It might just be. My Al Capone burger was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and tasted good incredible. Great choice of local beers and a really nice pub with a great atmosphere.
Lovely location, great sections of drink, food was lovely.
I will defo go back again!
Very good place to go with friends
I had the Guinness and steak pizza. The dough was light but a little too limp. In retrospect a bit left field and sweet for my taste. The standard pizzas looked good. Not my favourite for Oxford but perfectly edible.
