About This Pub

You know, when you step into The Harcourt Arms, it's like slipping into a cosy corner of old-school Oxford – no flashy distractions, just solid beers and that warm glow from the open fires that make you want to settle in for a good natter. I love how they've nailed the real ales and even have some fine wines for those who fancy something different, plus that secret garden is a real hidden delight for when the weather's on your side. The staff are genuinely welcoming, and the live music nights bring a bit of buzz without it feeling overcrowded. On the downside, it doesn't kick off until 5 PM, so if you're after a daytime spot, you might be out of luck, and those early closing times could cut your evening short if you're in the mood for a longer session. All in all, it's a brilliant spot for anyone craving an authentic pub experience, but it's probably best for those evenings when you fancy keeping things simple and chatting with mates rather than seeking out non-stop action.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • A superb selection of real ales and fine wines that really hit the spot for beer enthusiasts.
  • The cosy atmosphere with open fires and comfy sofas makes it ideal for a relaxed chat and good vibes.
  • That hidden secret garden is an absolute treat for outdoor drinks on a sunny day.
  • Friendly staff and a welcoming owner who create a warm, community feel that's hard to beat.
  • Fun live music events, like open mic nights, add a lively touch without overwhelming the charm.
Cons
  • It only opens from 5 PM, so it's not the best for grabbing a quick pint earlier in the day.
  • Closing times are a bit early, around 11 PM on weekdays, which might disappoint if you're up for a late one.
  • No TVs or games machines means it can feel a tad quiet if you're after more lively entertainment.
  • Tucked away in the back streets of Jericho, it might take a bit of effort to find if you're not familiar with the area.

Without a doubt one of the best pubs in Oxford, an atmosphere like no other with friendly, true Jericho locals. Owner is so lovely and when they have live music, it's brilliant. Also open on Xmas day - my new fav Christmas tradition.

We came for a live music night. The atmosphere was incredible. It's clearly a loved by neighbours and visitors alike. It's a cosy English pub with friendly staff and a very Oxford ambiance. I'll be back for more live music

This pub is near perfection…. Great cask and craft beers on offer, paired with an extensive bourbon list, two fires, and a killer playlist. And a warm welcome from the proprietor - highly (!!) recommended!

Cosy back street pub, with a muted colour scheme, and subtle lighting, there is a small outside courtyard. 3 ales usually available.
