About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Richmond Arms in Bath – it's one of those places that just warms your cockles the moment you walk in. Tucked away in this stunning Georgian terrace, it's got that classic British pub feel with a touch of elegance, making it ideal for a chilled afternoon or evening. The drinks are brilliant; think artisan beers, lovely ciders, and a solid wine list that pairs perfectly with their tasty cheeseboards and cured meats. And Ian, the host, is just fabulous – always ready with a smile and a story, which really makes the place stand out. From what I've gathered from chats and reviews, it's spot-on for a cosy vibe, whether you're nipping in for a quick pint or settling in for the night. On the flip side, it's only open Fridays through Sundays, so you'll need to check the times to avoid disappointment, and it might not be the spot if you're after something buzzing every day of the week. All in all, it's a top choice for anyone wanting a genuine, friendly pub experience in Bath – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic setting in a gorgeous Georgian terrace in Bath is just charming – it's like stepping back in time while enjoying a pint.
  • Ian and the team are absolute gems, always welcoming and up for a chat, making you feel right at home whether you're popping in alone or with mates.
  • They've got a cracking selection of artisan beers, ciders, wines, and those cheeseboards are spot on – proper quality and generous portions.
  • The atmosphere is spot-on for a relaxed evening; it's intimate and cosy, perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the city.
Cons
  • It's only open a few days a week, which means you might have to plan your visit around their schedule and miss out on a spontaneous stop.
  • With limited hours, it can sometimes feel a bit quiet or under the radar, so it might not suit those after a lively night out every time.
  • Being a smaller venue, space could be tight if it gets busy, though that's rare based on what folks say.

My wife and I came for an afternoon’s pasta making workshop (also utterly fantastic but separate to this review) during a weekend in Bath, down from Glasgow, and once complete, settled ourselves at the small bar for a pint before heading for home. We got chatting to the owner Ian, who let us taste the local tipples, gave us some great chat, introduced us to the charming lady next door and made us feel incredibly welcomed. One hour turned into 2, turned in 3 and into 4, by which time we’d met all manner of passing punters, local residents and a few new faces to the area - putting the world to rights over more than a few ciders and white wines. The vibe was cosy, friendly, incredibly welcoming and with a great background playlist to boot. The Richmond Arms is clearly a special pub, nestled snugly in between a row of historic houses, one that’s warmly enjoyed by those who live near by. To get to it, you will need to climb one of the steepest streets anywhere in existence, up from Bath town centre, (we cheated and got the bus) but I guarantee you it’ll be well worth it for an afternoon spent this hidden gem.

Stayed here for the weekend with some friends while visiting Bath and honestly, we had such a great time! The pub downstairs has a really cozy vibe, and the accommodation upstairs was perfect for us. Ian, the host, is an absolute gem – super friendly and easy to talk to. We were welcomed with big smiles, lovely chats, and even some complimentary drinks when we arrived, which was such a nice touch. The whole place felt really safe and welcoming. Would 100% stay here again next time we’re in town!

I love The Richmond! Ian is an engaging, interesting and wonderful host. Sometimes the pub is quiet and intimate, other times it’s bustling and loud. I can turn up on my own, or with my family, and it’s always welcoming. They also do amazing cheeseboards!
