About This Pub

You know, when I think about the Red Lion, it just brings a smile to my face; it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local hideaway, especially if you've been out for a ramble in the Lancashire moors. The staff are absolute stars – always up for a chat and making sure everyone's looked after, which really sets the tone for a great visit. The ales are top drawer, with a brilliant range that caters to all tastes, and the food doesn't disappoint either; whether it's a comforting Sunday roast or one of those home-cooked curries on their special nights, it's all done with real flair. Plus, the beer garden's a treat when the weather's on your side, and they've got lively events like folk music or quizzes to keep things buzzing. On the flip side, though, do keep an eye on the clock because the kitchen shuts at 9 pm, and if you're in the mood for something a bit more contemporary, this old-school charmer might feel a tad straightforward. All in all, it's a solid spot for unwinding, and I'd say it's well worth seeking out if you're after that genuine pub experience without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of cask ales, from light session brews to rich stouts, perfect for a proper pint lover.
  • The food is spot on – think hearty pub classics and delicious curries, all freshly made with real care.
  • It's got a lovely beer garden, ideal for soaking up the sun with a drink in hand on a nice day.
  • They host fun events like curry nights, live music, and quiz evenings, adding a bit of excitement to the week.
  • Dog-friendly and cosy, with a traditional village pub vibe that's just charming after a walk in the countryside.
Cons
  • Food service wraps up at 9 pm, which might leave you out of luck if you're popping in later for a bite.
  • It's quite a traditional, no-frills setup, so if you're after something more modern or fancy, it might not hit the mark.
  • Tucked away in a village, it could be a bit of a trek if you're not local, though that's part of its appeal for some.

After a long day of climbing, I arrived at the Red Lion Pub only to discover that food is officially served until 9 pm. Even though I was a bit late, the staff's warm welcome and exceptional service made up for it. They kindly whipped up an exquisite lamb curry, a dish crafted by a talented chef with a true passion for flavour. The Red Lion Pub not only impresses with its delicious cuisine but also with its genuine hospitality making it a truly memorable experience!

We we're just passing through when we came across this place & fancied a drink. Very friendly man on arrival think he was the landlord. Polite girl serving. Proper old fashioned boozer. Nice pint. Will be visiting again when in the area.

I had a great experience at the red lion. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, with friendly staff that makes you feel welcome. The food is delicious—hearty pub classics like crispy fish and chips and comforting Sunday roast . The selection of local ales is also top-notch. A perfect spot for a relaxing pint or meal! Highly recommended.

Absolutely lovely pub, in the heart of a beautiful village. The Red Lion has everything need after a hike on the Lancashire moors - warm welcome, open fire and great food. It's dog friendly too, so your fury walking companions can also relax.
