About This Pub
Ah, Malthouse Farm Pub – it's one of those places that just feels like a breath of fresh air, tucked away in Whittle-le-Woods near Chorley, with stunning views and a real homely charm. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is spot on; think hearty Sunday roasts and fresh seasonal dishes that leave you wanting more, all served up with a smile by the friendly team who clearly know how to make everyone feel right at home – whether you're celebrating a birthday or just popping in for a pint. The beer garden by the canal is an absolute gem for those lazy afternoons, and it's great to see it's so welcoming for families and even the four-legged sorts. On the flip side, it does get packed at times, so planning ahead is a must, and while the prices are fair for what you get, they might stretch the budget a bit for regular visits. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates or a family meal, and with that 4.3 rating, it's clear most folks leave with a smile, though it's always good to keep expectations in check for busier days.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious, with a great variety of pub classics and seasonal specials that really hit the spot.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile with thoughtful touches like birthday banners and allergy advice.
-
It's got a lovely, cosy atmosphere in a beautiful location by the canal, complete with a fantastic beer garden that's perfect for sunny days.
-
The place is spotlessly clean, including the bathrooms, and it's welcoming for families, dogs, and groups looking for a relaxed vibe.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, especially on weekends or near the Premier Inn, so you might have to book ahead to snag a table.
-
With moderate prices, it might feel a tad pricey for a casual midweek meal, though the quality makes it worth it for special occasions.
-
Serving hours wrap up at 9pm most days, which could be a downside if you're after a late-night bite after a long walk.

Visited a week ago for my mums birthday. Arrived to a birthday banner across our table and a card for her which was a lovely touch.
Good variety on the menu, food was delicious. Cleanliness was really good including the bathroom.
We were looked after by a lovely lady called Debs who took great care of us. Nothing was too much trouble, she was smiley and friendly. We would definitely go back again. The location on the banks of the canal is really pretty too.
Absolutely fabulous food, amazing service and a brilliant atmosphere. Always feel looked after here, came as a party of 3 and a dog, everyone loved their food and the drinks on a canal side location. Great service from Emma and Ahmet.
Been here a couple of times now while staying at premier Inn next door. Superb location right next to canal. Fantastic outdoor beer garden & courtyard. Good beers. Friendly staff. Definitely visiting again soon when staying next door again. Little lad loved the duck's.
Well what can I say, this has to be one of the best Sunday dinners I've had for a very long time, it was that good we went back the Sunday after!! Staff were amazing, it is a beautiful location, so this weekend we are going to try out the Saturday menu and I know we won't be disappointed.
The only small disappointment was on the Sunday lunch menu online that I downloaded for the family to mull over it states it comes with swede mash, a favorite of my daughter, but when we received the menu on the day this item had been removed and that was a bit disappointing for a few of the family.
The bread and chive butter as a complimentary taste bud teasers was a very nice touch.
Well done to a quality restaurant 👏👌
Was staying in the Premier Inn just for an overnight travel break.
A 30 second walk from the Prem and I was in this lovely warm and inviting pub.
Was busy but was shown to a table by friendly staff.
I was then looked after by Issy. I told her about my allergy from the onset and she got me the NGC menu and was pleasantly surprised to see a "proper" menu and not a load of sheets of A4 paper stapled together.
Well all I can say is all the food ( I had 3 courses) was absolutely fantastic and I would like to extend my compliments to the cooks.
The service I received whilst in the pub was second to none and was really made to feel welcome.
I can't thank Issy enough for her professionalism.
