About This Pub
You know, when I popped into The Red Lion, it really hit the spot as a classic village pub – it's got that homely feel with wooden beams and a fire crackling away, making it ideal for unwinding after a walk. The food stands out a mile; folks are bang on about those roasts, with generous portions and tasty sides like cauliflower cheese that leave you satisfied. The team there are an absolute delight, always up for a natter and ensuring everything runs smoothly, whether you're in for a family meal or just a quick drink. It's spot on for groups with kids or even your furry companion, as they've got that inclusive vibe going. On the downside, being out in the sticks, it might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're craving a more energetic night, and it does fill up quickly on weekends, so you'd want to plan ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for a genuine pub experience – I'd say give it a go if you're after good grub and a friendly atmosphere without the hustle and bustle.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely brilliant, especially those Sunday roasts – they come highly recommended and are packed with flavour, like the lamb or beef options that everyone raves about.
-
The staff are so friendly and welcoming; it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's a proper traditional country pub with a cosy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed pint or a quiet lunch, and they even welcome families and dogs, which is a nice touch.
-
Great selection of beers, real ales, and wines, plus a lovely setting overlooking the common – ideal for a summer drink outside or warming up by the fire in winter.
-
The overall vibe is spot on for a community pub, with high ratings and positive feedback showing it's a reliable spot for celebrations or just a casual visit.
Cons
-
It's tucked away in a quiet village, so it might not suit those after a lively city buzz or if you're not up for a bit of a drive.
-
It can get busy, especially for Sunday lunches, which means you might need to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
-
While the reviews are mostly glowing, that one four-star mention hints it might not be perfect for every occasion, like larger events where things could feel a tad rushed.

We visited this pub for a wake. It was my first visit. The Red Lion is a lovely country pub with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Two quality ales were available and appreciated. The buffet food was excellent. The experienced landlord made a point of checking that everything had been satisfactory. I am not local, but have family within reach and will try to visit again.
I took the family to the Red Lion yesterday for my wife’s 60th birthday. She is quite fussy but I needn’t have worried. Probably the best roast dinner experience I have had, and I’ve had a few! We were a party of 10 with 3 young children who were very well accommodated both inside and in the play area. I had a mixed meat, beef and lamb which was very tender and tasty with plenty of gravy. The veg was fresh and crisp and the roast potatoes light and crispy. The pub is full of character with a good range of Ales and the garden a picture of colour. Finally a special mention to landlord Gary and his staff . Excellent service with a smile. Reasonably priced too. Strongly recommend the Red Lion, we’ll definitely be back.
I've been here for Sunday roast a few times and it never disappoints. The gravy in particular deserves a special mention. There's a choice of chicken, lamb or beef. It is also good value for money. Service is friendly and efficient. Overall a traditional country pub that serves great food .
Amazing Sunday roast, really nice staff and very sweet locals too. It was our first time visiting The Red Lion - we were there with our toddler and everybody was absolutely lovely. We sat in the bar and our daughter was besotted with the dogs, and the fishtank in the restaurant area. Great atmosphere, unreal cauliflower cheese, proper country pub vibe. 10/10 will be returning!
First visit and was not disappointed, such a lovely traditional pub. The bar staff were so helpful and friendly. We were served an amazing lamb roast dinner and the extra cauliflower cheese was delicious 😋 Landlord and staff were first class and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. If you want a table on Sunday you would be advised to book!
