About This Pub
Ah, The Red Lion – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air when you step inside. From what I've gathered chatting about it with others, the staff are absolute stars; they're attentive and make you feel like a regular from the get-go, whether it's for a quick breakfast or a full-blown birthday bash. The food's a real highlight too – think mouthwatering burgers, piping hot shepherd's pie, and those Sunday roasts that leave you properly satisfied, all without breaking the bank. It's got that classic pub charm with a roaring fire and a beer garden that's spot on for sunnier days, plus a great range of beers to choose from. On the flip side, it does get packed, so planning ahead is a must if you don't fancy queuing, and the opening hours can be a tad unclear, which might throw a spanner in the works for an evening out. All in all, it's a solid spot for anyone in Coventry looking for good value and a warm welcome, but it's probably best for those times when you want something straightforward and enjoyable rather than anything too out of the ordinary. I'd say give it a go if you're nearby – you might just find yourself returning for more.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make you feel right at home – shout out to the likes of Tracey, Terri, and the team who've clearly won over so many visitors.
-
The food is spot on, with delicious options like juicy burgers, hearty shepherd's pie, and a cracking Sunday roast; plus, they've got great choices for families, veggies, and vegans, all at reasonable prices.
-
It's got a lovely warm atmosphere, complete with a real open fire and a sunny beer garden that's perfect for a relaxing pint or meal outdoors.
-
Excellent beer selection, including classics like Old Peculiar, and it's in a handy spot near the M6 with plenty of free parking, making it easy to pop in after a day out.
-
The pub feels like a proper local gem, with historical touches like the hidden entrance from the church, and it's buzzing with good vibes that make for a memorable visit.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, especially during peak times, so you might need to book a table in advance to avoid waiting around.
-
The operating hours seem a bit confusing from what I've seen, with varying closing times listed, which could catch you out if you're planning a late visit.
-
While the food's generally brilliant, it's a pub after all, so if you're after something super fancy or innovative, it might not quite hit the mark compared to a high-end restaurant.

Amazing welcome from Tracey, Terri and the staff here today
What a great venue, very popular with diners, it's got stunning outside spaces with a huge carpark.
I personally love the food from Ember inns especially the Sunday roast... The food coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic and has got me booking a table for Sunday dinner...😋😋😋
