About This Pub

Ah, The Red Lion – it's one of those reliable pubs in Manchester that you might pop into for a hearty meal without breaking the bank. I have to say, what really shines here is the value for money; their carvery roasts and fresh pizzas are absolute bargains, especially with deals like 50% off or the rewards app that lets you earn free meals. The staff are lovely too, always making you feel welcome, and it's great to see them supporting local charities – that community spirit is something I appreciate. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; a few folks have mentioned the breakfast being a letdown with overcooked bits and dodgy coffee, and when it's quiet, the food can end up a bit dry or lacking that fresh touch. Overall, if you're after an inexpensive spot for a casual get-together, it's worth a visit, but maybe stick to the carvery for the best experience and keep expectations in check for the rest. It's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts, as long as you're up for that mix of highs and lows!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food deals are brilliant value, like the all-you-can-eat breakfast and 50% off pizzas and burgers – perfect for a budget-friendly outing with mates.
  • Staff are always welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The carvery is a standout, with hot, tasty roasts and those incredible roast potatoes that folks rave about – it's a real treat for a Sunday lunch.
  • They've got a great range of options, including fresh stone-baked pizzas, succulent burgers, and even veggie and vegan choices, so it's spot on for families or groups.
  • Plus, they're involved in the community, letting you help choose charities to support, which adds a nice touch to the whole experience.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be hit or miss with quality, like overcooked eggs or burnt sausages in the breakfast, which puts a dampener on things.
  • The coffee might not live up to expectations – it's been described as undrinkable, which is a shame if you're after a proper brew.
  • When it's quiet, the food doesn't always stay fresh, leading to dried-out items that feel a bit cheap and disappointing.
  • It's not always buzzing, so if you're hoping for a lively atmosphere, you might find it a tad empty at times.

I was looking forward to trying this place so went for breakfast. It was quiet so the turnover of food wasn't great, resulting in hard fried eggs and over well done bacon and black pudding. And the unlimited coffee was completely undrinkable. While it looks cheap, there are better places to go for a similar price

Went here on Thursday for lunch with my best friend, we had the carvery. From start to finish we where treated very well, service was lovely made to feel welcome. The food was exceptional, one of the best carverys I've had in a long time. Everything was hot and the roast potatoes were to die for! Plenty of meat and plenty of choices. Thank you

Nipped in to the Red Lion for a hot drink after visiting the cemetery. We quickly decided to have lunch too. We both had a granary sandwich. The bread was soft and fresh, the turkey was delicious and I had crispy chicken which was hot and tasty. We were served by Jenny who was very pleasant and happy to make changes to the menu for us. We will definitely visit again.
