We recently held a celebratory birthday here for 30 people. The staff were so helpful and the catered food was delicious. So many of our friends who came and had never been before were impressed with the venue and food and said they would come back as it was even better than many of the pubs in Crouch End and Muswell Hill for atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend their private party option.
I’ve been a loyal customer at The Ranelagh for many years, but after my recent experience, I won’t be returning, and I strongly advise others to think twice before visiting.
While quietly enjoying a drink alone, I was aggressively approached by a staff member named Paul, who claimed to be the manager. Without any reason or provocation, he told me I wasn’t welcome and that I “make him feel bad.” I was shocked and tried to respond calmly, but he escalated the situation, visibly shaking, threatening to call the police, and then snatching my drink and pouring it away.
I did absolutely nothing wrong. Other staff members looked confused and embarrassed by his behavior, which seemed more like a personal vendetta than anything remotely professional. Paul has always been cold and unfriendly, but this crossed every line of basic decency.
This experience left me humiliated and hurt. I lost a pub I once considered my local because of one individual’s ego and aggression. It’s a disgraceful way to treat any customer, let alone a regular. I sincerely hope the management takes a serious look at who they allow to represent their business.
A Fantastic Evening at The Ranelagh
I recently had the pleasure of spending an evening at The Ranelagh, and it turned out to be one of the best pub experiences I’ve had in the UK.
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, lively, and inviting. The pub has a great balance between a classic British charm and a fresh, modern feel. The drink selection was excellent—plenty of variety, well-poured pints, and some really nice cocktails. The food was also a highlight: hearty, delicious, and clearly made with care.
What truly made the night stand out was the outstanding customer service. Mia, one of the staff members, was absolutely impeccable. She was professional, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Her warm personality and attention to detail made the entire experience feel special. It’s rare to come across such consistently wonderful service—she truly elevated the evening.
I’ll definitely be back to The Ranelagh. Great drinks, great food, and above all, exceptional service.
Great food and atmosphere. More than just pub grub! Quality ingredients really shine through in all dishes we had. Fabulous server Mia who went above and beyond for our one ‘fussy’ eater. Nothing was too much trouble for her. We will definitely be back.
Popped in for a quick lunch and was more than satisfied! I've been to this pub four times now, as it's close to where I work, making it great for after work drinks. Each time I've been, the food has been on point!
I recommend ordering the Bacchus raspberry beer if you like shandy or cider. Even though I don't normally drink beer, I really like this one, likely because it's fruity. 🍺
As for the food, there's clearly labelled veggie and vegan options, which I appreciate as someone who eats more plant based foods than meat.
The crispy cauliflower florets in particular are a must-order. They're golden and crunchy on the outside with the softer cauliflower in the middle, which pairs well with the spicy and sweet sauce. I've ordered this dish every time I've been, and it's always been great!
I also ordered an avocado and mango salad. Personally, I think the addition of chicken is a good idea, as the salad would have felt 'lacking' without it. On the plus side, the slight char in the chicken was lovely and packed flavour.
The pub itself has nice decor and a beer garden which is nice for summer.
The service is also super quick, and ordering to the table via a QR code and Google Pay is an option. (I did go at lunch time on a Wednesday, so it was quiet.)
Overall, I'd highly recommend this pub if you're in the area, and the Bacchus beer!
