About This Pub

Ah, The Railway Tavern, what a lovely find in New Barnet! I've got to say, it's one of those places that just gets it right for a good night out. The vibe is spot-on if you're into sports; there are loads of screens dotted around, so you won't miss a second of the action, and it's clear from the chatter that regulars love coming back for that. The staff are an absolute delight – think efficient, professional service with a warm, welcoming touch that makes you feel right at home. And the food? Well, it's a proper treat; they've got hearty portions of classics like fish and chips or a Sunday roast, plus thoughtful options for vegetarians and those avoiding gluten, all served up with a smile. The garden's a bonus too, especially if you're popping in with the dog on a sunny day. But, to keep it real, it can get a bit hectic during peak times, and those varying opening hours might throw you off if you're not checking first. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a pint and some laughs with mates – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing, especially if you're a sports fan – plenty of screens to catch all the live action, making it a brilliant spot for watching the big games.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient; folks like Nora and her team really make you feel welcome, with warm, professional service that's hard to beat.
  • The food is top-notch, with classic favourites and options for vegetarians and gluten-free diners – big portions and dishes like fish and chips on Fridays or a Sunday roast that hit the spot.
  • The garden area is lovely and spacious, perfect for a relaxed pint, and it's dog-friendly too, as long as they're on a lead – great for those who want to bring their furry friends.
  • They cater well for events, from birthdays to corporate dos, ensuring every visit is memorable with a good selection of beers and a welcoming vibe overall.
Cons
  • The operating hours seem a bit inconsistent from what's listed, which might confuse you when planning a visit, though it's open seven days a week.
  • It can get quite lively, especially during big sports events, so if you're after a quiet, cosy evening, it might not be the ideal choice.
  • While the reviews are mostly glowing, that one slightly lower rating suggests it might not wow everyone, perhaps if the service hits a snag on a busy night.

Having not long moved into the general area I was looking for a nice pub for myself and my family to visit for a festive family meal. This was a great choice. Nora and her gang are fantastic. Service is extremely efficient and professional but also very warm and welcoming. It was our first visit but we felt like regulars/friends from the minute we walked in. It's exactly how a proper boozer should be. Our meal was lovely and great value. We ate inside, what with it being December, but I can imagine the huge covered conservatory and garden areas are lovely in the summer months.

The back garden is massive with any seatings. I love the gigantic marquee. No need to worry about sun or rain. The food is big portion and is lovely. Our waitress is Kate. She is nice and friendly and very efficient. Thank you for the lovely evening
