About This Pub

Ah, The Railway Bell, one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots that you can always count on for a straightforward pint and a bite without fuss. From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff really shine when they're on form, going out of their way to make you feel welcome, whether you're there for a quick lunch or a relaxed evening with mates. The garden area's a real highlight, especially in the summer, offering a clean and cheerful space to unwind, and it's brilliant for families too – imagine your little ones enjoying a meal while you catch up over a beer. Prices are just what you'd expect from the chain, making it an easy choice for everyday outings. On the flip side, though, service isn't always consistent; a few have mentioned feeling ignored, which can leave you a bit frustrated after a long day. The food and drinks might not wow you every time – sometimes it's just average – but that's the trade-off for those unbeatable deals. All in all, if you're after a no-nonsense pub experience in Barnet, it's worth a visit, but keep in mind it might not be the place for something truly memorable.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff can be incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home, especially if you're popping in for a pint on your own.
  • It's a great spot for families or a casual catch-up, with a nice garden area that's perfect for sunny days and keeps things relaxed and enjoyable.
  • Prices are spot on for a Wetherspoon – affordable and value for money, so you can enjoy a few drinks or a meal without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is generally lively yet calm, with quick service and food that hits the spot when you're after something straightforward.
  • There's a good selection of ales and beers, and the pub's got plenty of light and space, making it a pleasant place to while away an afternoon.
Cons
  • Service can be hit or miss; some folks have had experiences where they felt overlooked, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.
  • The food and beer quality isn't always top-notch – it might come across as average or even below par at times, depending on when you visit.
  • As with many chain pubs, it lacks that unique, cosy feel you sometimes get in independents, so it might not stand out for a special occasion.

Extremely Disappointed – Treated Unfairly I visited this pub for the first time on 21/4 around 8:30pm, hoping to support my local spot, but it will also be the last. The bar was nearly empty—just a couple in front of us—yet the waiter chose to ignore us completely. He looked straight at us, didn’t acknowledge us, and walked away to do other things. Other customers were served ahead of us, and it felt very much like we were being treated differently because of the colour of our skin. Eventually, a different waiter came over to serve us, but the damage was done. The whole experience was disheartening and uncomfortable. No one should feel unwelcome in their own community because of how they look. I hope the management takes this seriously—because this kind of treatment should never be acceptable.

Received greeting and as I was on my own, the staff went out of there way to chat with me. This was lunchtime on Wednesday 9th April 2025. I was there for beers! . Wonderful staff, Also, friendly people. Great selected ales.. Tried 4 pints. Lovely calm experience. Will be back. Thank you, Barry Lynch

We like to go to Whetherspoons with my children for many years. My son, after school, screaming most of the time, mummy, can we go to the pub 🤣🤣🤣 Nice atmosphere, good fast food. I love it garden area to use it for a summer time, always nice and clean. Food always comes fast. We have been going to that oub for over 10 years now, we have been going there before we had children, now with children and hopefully with our grandkids too. I love it that's we can order online instead of standing next to the bar and waiting in a line. I am really recommending this pub.

Very pleasant service from the chatty female member of staff who has good knowledge of Wetherspoon's pubs. The food was okay, and the beer was below par. However, this may have been because it was only around 11 am. Plenty of light in this one and an impressive outdoor seating area. Would definitely return.

Popular pub , average pub food with variety. This chain had a lot of branch everywhere and very value for money. The one we go this time had a big glass ceiling seating area which is very nice during day time I believe.
