About This Pub

Ah, Pinch of Salt – it's one of those neighbourhood gems that really hits the spot if you're after some authentic Mauritian flavours mixed with grilled classics, all without the pretence of a fancy city joint. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food is where it truly shines; think mouthwatering seafood platters, zesty cocktails, and dishes like calamari or drunken duck that folks rave about as some of the best they've had in ages. It's got that easy-going vibe that's just right for popping in after a walk in the park or for a simple dinner that feels like catching up with old friends. But, to keep it real, it does have its off moments – like when it's not buzzing, the atmosphere can feel a bit flat, and you might wish for a bit more of a cheerful hello from the team to make you feel at home straight away. Still, with such solid ratings and happy comments overall, I'd say it's well worth a try if you're in the area and fancy something a bit different from the usual pub fare. Give it a go, and you might just find yourself returning for more of those flavoursome treats.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with standout Mauritian fusion dishes like grilled seafood platters and tasty starters that leave you craving more.
  • It offers a lovely relaxed and informal atmosphere, making it perfect for a casual catch-up with friends over sharing plates and cocktails.
  • With high ratings and positive feedback, it's clear this place knows how to deliver on flavour and keep things welcoming for a laid-back meal.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit quiet and lacking in atmosphere, especially if you're there early or on a less busy night, which might dampen the vibe.
  • The welcome isn't always as warm or personal as you'd hope, with staff sometimes being a tad reserved when things are slow.
  • First impressions of the place might not be the most striking, so it could take a moment to settle in and appreciate what's on offer.

This really is a gem of a place with a lovely relaxed, informal atmosphere. I had been craving a grilled seafood platter and found Pinch of Salt in my online search. Decided to give it a try with my partner for lunch and I'm so glad we did. A beautiful sharing platter was served up, smelling and looking fantastic. Wish I'd photographed it, but we couldn't wait to tuck in and enjoy it - massive juicy tiger prawns, mussels, calamari and a whole sea bass. Mmmmmmm, just what I was after. It came with a bowl of lovely little skin on fries and some fresh salad with a delightful garlic dressing. We also ordered a bowl of the turmeric rice to go with (a delight in itself) and a couple of glasses of white wine. Very happy to have found this little diamond. Will definitely be heading back!

Absolutely fantastic food, really. We were the only ones in there (it was a little early on a Friday night) and so there was no atmosphere. Even the staff were very quiet. I'd like to see more a personal welcome and some welcoming chat from the owner. Given there was no-one else there he could have come over and had a conversation and asked a few questions. Also, we had to ask the waitress over a few times and she seemed also very shy! Poor thing. Anyway, worth a visit for the burgers alone!

We went for a walk as a family through oak hill park and my wife was craving a margarita so we thought we'd stop off at pinch of salt which it very close to the park. We got a selection of small plates and some cocktails. It a nice small restaurant, but we really enjoyed everything we ordered here. The cocktails we're really good, i think the margarita we're our favourite cocktail over the mojito. All the small plates were really good. Our favourite being the prawns each plate were good quality and cooked perfectly We are looking forward to coming back and trying their happy hour and grill night.

My wife book for one evening out. We never been there before. First impression when you walk in the restaurant is not the best. But the food was amazing. Starter calamari was delicious. Also starter barbecue chicken wings were very tasty. My wife had duck. It was very good she said. I had an 8oz steak which was melting in the mouth. The best steak I ate the last years. 100% I recommend the restaurant and will go again. Do not rush to reject it based on the atmosphere or how the place looks. The food will compensate you!

Had a lovely dinner last night at Pinch of Salt, the food was delicious and probably one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time - we had the Prawn a la creole and the drunken duck which were both flavourful and tasty, with the calamari and Mauritian split pea fritters to start. The tables were clean, and food arrived in a promptly manner. Staff were attentive, polite and welcoming. Highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. We will be returning soon
