About This Pub

Ah, The Railway Hotel – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot for a casual get-together over drinks. From what I've gathered from the chats online, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which is just what you want after a long day. The beer selection is spot on too, with plenty of choices to suit different tastes, and that outdoor area by the bowling green? It's a proper hidden gem for soaking up some fresh air and enjoying the view, especially if the weather's playing ball. But, and I say this as a mate who's been around a few pubs, it's not all perfect – parking's a bit of a nightmare if you forget to register your car, and from the sounds of it, the food might not be worth bothering with, or at least it's let a few people down. The atmosphere can swing from lively and packed to a bit lacklustre depending on the day, so it's probably best for a drink-focused visit rather than a full meal out. Overall, it's a solid choice for us lot looking for a good time without the fuss, as long as you go in with your eyes open to the quirks.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The service is spot on – friendly staff who make you feel right at home, as mentioned in a few reviews.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers and drinks, perfect for a relaxed pint or two.
  • The outdoor seating next to the bowling green is a real treat, especially on a sunny day – it's just lovely to sit and watch the world go by.
  • It's often buzzing with a lively crowd, which adds to the fun and makes for a welcoming atmosphere when it's at its best.
Cons
  • Parking can be a right hassle; a couple of folks got hit with hefty fines because they didn't spot the need to log their car reg, so it's worth keeping an eye out.
  • The food doesn't seem up to scratch from what I've heard – one person said it was disappointing, and it's unclear if they even serve much these days.
  • The atmosphere can be hit or miss; while it's great when it's packed and cheerful, it apparently fell flat for some, leaving a bit of a downer.

Not sure if they serve food, I don't think so but used to several years ago. Nice place where you can sit outside and watch the bowling
