About This Pub

Ah, The Queens Head in Cullercoats – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a relaxed seaside spot, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got this fantastic location right by the water, which makes it ideal for nipping in after a walk along the coast, especially with that outdoor seating for when the weather's playing ball. The staff sound like absolute stars, always friendly and quick to sort you out, and the food's often a highlight – think delicious Sunday roasts and scotch eggs that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. It's kept really clean too, and being dog-friendly is a nice touch if you're out with your four-legged friend. On the downside, there have been a few grumbles about the food not always hitting the mark, like a recent Sunday lunch that was a bit of a letdown with incorrect meats, undercooked veg, and that overpowering garlic flavour that doesn't appeal to all tastes – not to mention it feeling a tad empty on some visits, which could dampen the atmosphere. Still, with the new owners buzzing about redesign plans, I'm optimistic it's on the up. Overall, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite, just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a grand time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got a brilliant spot right by the coast, making it perfect for a sunny day out with outdoor seating to soak in the views
  • The staff are really friendly and accommodating, always up for a chat and making you feel welcome
  • The food's generally spot on, with tasty options like the Sunday roast and scotch eggs – hearty portions at a fair price
  • The place is spotlessly clean, with a nice atmosphere and even dog-friendly perks like free treats and water
  • They're planning some exciting interior redesigns, so it's got potential for even more of a lively vibe in the future
Cons
  • Food quality can be hit or miss, like that disappointing Sunday lunch with wrong meats, frozen bits, and a strong garlic taste that doesn't suit everyone
  • It can feel a bit quiet at times, which might not hit the spot if you're after a buzzing crowd
  • Some meals haven't lived up to the hype, especially for the price, so it's worth checking what's on offer before diving in

We had Sunday lunch outside as the weather was so good. It was a little quiet in the pub, but normally it’s busy with a lively atmosphere. The new owners are really great and have some big plans to redesign the interior, so looking forward to heading back in July 2025 to see the changes!

Sunday lunch well below average. Wrong meats, frozen roasties, part cooked veg all with a taste of garlic. Not everyone like garlic.. not worth the £15 sadly. Chef needs to do better !!!! This used to be crammed every Sunday with previous owners but empty today

Popped in for late lunch on a lovely sunny afternoon! Greeted by a canny lad behind the bar, restaurant was empty (funny time of day for food, 3pm) but people outside and in the bar. The food was really good, the place was spotless and had nice music playing! We’ll defo be back

In a lovely location next to the water, clean and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food came out relatively fast, fresh and good sized portions at a reasonable price. Beer nice and cold and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Also dog friendly so big bonus, dogs also get free treats and water, will absolutely be back!
