About This Pub

Oh, what a gem The Boatyard Brunch Café is, tucked away on the Cullercoats seafront – it's one of those places that just feels like a breath of fresh air. I love how they've got this evolving menu packed with classics and worldly twists, all made from scratch with local goodies, and they've really nailed the inclusive vibe with vegan and dietary options galore. The drinks are spot on too, from their baristocracy-roasted coffee to local beers and organic wines, making it a brilliant spot for a relaxed morning or afternoon. The staff are an absolute delight, full of that genuine Geordie charm that makes chatting with them feel like catching up with old mates. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – service can drag a bit when things get hectic, and I've heard a few tales of food not quite hitting the mark, like eggs that are a smidge overdone or dishes that seem reheated rather than freshly made. Still, with its dog-friendly policy and that easygoing atmosphere, it's a place I'd happily recommend for a bite, as long as you're in the mood for a bit of patience alongside your brekkie. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a taste of the coast with a side of community spirit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, locally sourced ingredients make for delicious brunches and treats, with plenty of vegan options to suit everyone.
  • The staff are so welcoming and friendly, offering that proper Geordie hospitality that makes you feel right at home.
  • It's in a cracking spot on the Cullercoats seafront, perfect for a relaxed outing with a sea view, and it's dog-friendly too, which is a real bonus for us animal lovers.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, from top-notch coffee and teas to local beers and cocktails, all served with a smile.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and laid-back, ideal for a casual catch-up or a quick bite after a walk along the bay.
Cons
  • Service can sometimes be a tad slow, especially when it's busy, which might leave you waiting a bit longer than you'd like.
  • There have been a few mentions of food not always being cooked just right, like overcooked eggs or reheated dishes that could do with a fresh touch.
  • It's walk-ins only, so you might not get a table straight away if it's popular, which can be a bit of a faff on peak days.

A lovely cafe for a quick meal! I visited with my husband and 3 year old and couldn't fault it at all. Food was great and the babychino for my son was fabulous, usually it's just in an espresso cup! There's a good selection of vegan cakes and the ones we tried were delicious. Staff were all friendly and the tunes in there were great! Definitely worth a visit if in the area!

Nice atmosphere, good range of foods on the brunch menu, lots of speciality drinks, nice coffee. Also like that it is dog friendly. Unfortunately, the service was a bit slow, staff looked harassed. When the food arrived the eggs were overcooked, the bubble and squeak was reheated badly, and the toast was served with no butter. The condiments also taste really cheap. My daughter enjoyed her pancakes but felt that the compote was too tart. I did mention the fact that it was freezing in there and the door was closed...but within second it was left open again, including by staff. My daughter had to sit with her coat on. I wanted to love it but it falls short of the mark.

I can't believe it live so close but have only just managed to go to the boatyard today! It's a must! Dead canny staff, lovely grub and friendly welcoming atmosphere... Eclectic menu (i had really tasty Avo Sourdough with mango salsa n chilli, even more amazing if you add bacon!), haggis toastie - very good! Vegan and veggie choices available. Evo wines, great pot of tea, dog friendly... there nothing to dislike. Can't wait to go back... 😋🥰

The Boatyard Brunch Café is a must-visit if you are in the Northumberland area. It serves delicious food and drinks. The owner Tom, manager Scott, and their friendly staff are very welcoming and helpful. They can also provide tips on what to visit in the area. My personal favorites at the cafe were the Bowls and the Plant Plate, a mix of beans, hash browns, veggie sausage, tomatoes, avocado, scrambled tofu, mushrooms, and toasted sourdough bread. I loved the Oat Hot Chocolate as it was the perfect drink after a cold morning swim in the sea. During my week-long stay in Cullercoats, I went there daily, and it consistently exceeded my expectations. Don't miss out on this delightful spot!

Breakfast stop, had the traditional fry up with haggis. Absolutely delicious, quality ingredients prepared with care. I'm not a baked bean lover but theirs are homemade, really good. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, great atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the menu explanation of the different coffees. A fantastic find. Enjoyed it so much, we went back a few hours later for cake and tea. The orange, almond and passion fruit slice in the photo is gluten free as well.
