About This Pub

Ah, The Print House at Jim & Tonic East – it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of East London, tucked away by the river and just a stone's throw from the station, making it super convenient for a quick pint or a full meal. I have to say, what stands out most is the lively vibe; it's got this great outdoor terrace and a stylish interior that's just inviting for catching up with friends over some cracking cocktails and their own distilled spirits – you can tell they've put effort into making it feel special. The food's got its moments too, like those gourmet pizzas and burgers that pair nicely with the drinks, especially if you're gearing up for something like an ABBA show nearby. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – prices can sting a bit for what ends up on your plate, and the grub itself is often just okay, with some folks mentioning dry options that don't quite live up to the hype. Service varies; you'll meet some truly lovely staff who go the extra mile, but others might leave you waiting or feeling a tad overlooked. Overall, it's a solid choice for a fun night out if you're in the area, but I'd suggest going in with realistic expectations to avoid any disappointments – it's all about that balanced experience, really.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is spot on, right by the river and just a short walk from the station, making it ideal for a pre-show meal or a casual outing.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of cocktails, craft beers, and their own on-site distilled spirits that really add a unique touch.
  • The outdoor terrace and stylish interior design make it a welcoming spot for relaxing with friends, especially on a nice day.
  • Food options like gourmet pizzas and burgers can hit the spot, and it's praised for being a vibrant place with great atmosphere for events.
  • Some of the staff are absolute gems – friendly, helpful, and really make you feel at home.
Cons
  • Prices can be a bit steep, which might leave you feeling it's not quite worth it for what you get.
  • The food is often described as just average – things like burgers coming out a tad dry and not standing out as anything special.
  • Service can be hit or miss; while some staff are brilliant, others might be slow or not as attentive as you'd hope.
  • Menu options feel limited at times, especially if you're in a larger group and have to pre-order, which adds a bit of hassle.
  • It's clear the place relies heavily on event crowds, so it might not always feel as personal or consistent on quieter days.

This place only has an high rating because of ABBA goers who are out for a good time, probably already drunk, somewhat willing to over look high prices and average food, as you do when you’re out for the day and caught up in it. Awful place. It’s perfectly situated for those attending ABBA round the corner, making it ideal for this place to charge astronomical prices with no thought of repeat custom, and boy do they know it. Awful service and bang average food. Rinse everyone the one time they visit. It’s a shame because I’m on the island frequently, and would go for a morning coffee and breakfast most weekends as there is nothing else around. Absolutely not going back. For those attending ABBA, it’s fine for what you need, but don’t expect much more or to leave with any pennies. Feel like this place is missing a trick for island residents. We got 3 avocado on toast with egg. Came to £54. We asked to take the service off as the guy was annoyed we had asked for a coffee 10 minutes prior to them opening at 11am.

Went to see Abba Voyage and Jim&tonic is perfectly placed to eat before the show. We did go lunch time just to check it out and book for dinner, great place right on the river, all the servers we had contact with were spot on, really helpful and very pleasant. Now the food I had the Crispy chicken burger.. I must say it was one of the best burgers I've ever had ... A whole fillit with Sriracha mayo, lettuce and I added some blue cheese.. it was next level ... Comes with a generous portion of fries also cooked just right ... There beer selection and brewed on site Gin was very good ...it's a shame we live so far away (Devon) because we would definitely be regulars 👏👏👏

We pre-booked an a la carte meal here to concide with our trip to Abba Voyage. It seemed to be the only place offering food nearby. We did arrive an hour early, so we went in to have a couple of drinks before ordering our food. The server found us a table and told us that the a la carte wasn't available until 4 pm, so we had a look at the brunch menu instead. Nothing particularly grabbed us, so we opted to wait for the a la carte to start at 4 pm. We got the a la carte menu and discovered that the only difference between the two was the a la carte served steak and sea bass as an extra option, the rest of the menu was the same as the brunch. We ordered the chicken burgers. The food that was brought to the table was good, no complaints about any of it, large portions and decent chips. Our server (I think, according to the receipt was Iza, the girl wearing the purple trousers on Sunday 20th April) deserves a special mention as she was polite, prompt, well presented and went above and beyond to make our dining here a pleasant experience. Management, please pass on our thanks to her. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat before the Abba show or indeed just to chill beside the canal, then we can highly recommend eating here.

A pre abba voyage meal. Which by the location is what gets this place most of its business. As a group of 8 we had to pre order our food which was strange. Very limited options on the menu. The food was okay, nothing special, chicken burger has standard, if anything it was a bit dry. Sadly the service was pretty poor. Slow to take orders for drinks. Every time we needed something we had to Flagg down staff and ask. 12.5% added to the bill which tbh we should have taken off as the service we received was minimal.

Great local pub, cafe, restaurant. Fantastic outdoor space. Great design and interior. Decent breakfasts. Decent pub food. Great location. Staff are hit and miss. There are a couple of amazing and friendly staff members and a couple of slow/not so helpful ones. Fantastic drinks, gin and cocktail selection. I come here a couple of times a week. Dog friendly.
